Need for Speed : Google Pwns OpenDNS with its own DNS…
I'm always travelling so there was no other option that backing up all my DVD's to my portable hard drive, in order to always have my favorite movies with me.
Great guide
I'm perfectly satisfied with FairUSE, as it does all by itself.
With that, there is no need for DVD Decrypter.
You just have to select the DVD Drive and set the conversion rules (as we did in AutoGK).
But, the tutorial is nice, and I'll surely use this, if ever, FairUSE fails.
N.B. A tutorial on ripping DVDs using FairUSE, could be found on my blog.
You really helped me out!
While I still use the Xvid codec when it's called for via site rules, I encoded to h.264 for my personal collection.
B.T.W. I only used the 700MB setting for staxrip for the side by side comparison I still prefer a slightly larger encode for quality settings and use the mp4 container for compatability with a larger base of devices.
I wonder why did u choose to tell us.. U could have been the next AxxO and earned a millions :))
Any ideas?
It's really simple to use, and I've been able to burn any dvd with it.
I'm a programmer in Visual Basic and I'm wondering if you'd be interested in me creating a way to automate all of this, hit me back on this. I'll check back weekly. :)
I also use Yasa VOB-AVI converter n select its size to 700 mb,..as well nice tools like Vidsplitter n Divx Converter
http://www.fairusewizard.com/
can i just select all and burn to a dual layer disc?
or is part 2 an important step?
im not looking to compress, ill be using dual layer discs.
I was wondering that normally the movie is in parts, many VOB and IFO files.
So how to merge them into 1 file like aXXo does?
How to crop the file to smaller resolution like 640X480 or 546 X 328
http://axxoreleasetoday.blogspot.com
check it out !
I just downloaded Edison Force created by axxo from the net...then I also rented the original version of Edison Force DVD n ripped with this process. But surprisingly axxo's file n my ripped file were not of much differences...n unlike other axxo's files I downloaded from net this Edison Force seemed to be of lower quality...anyone knows why?
can do
use this Mencoder in place of auto gk
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MEncoder)
or
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ffmpegGUI
go for vbr audio and downsampling of 44100 hz(dvd's are generally48000 hz)
cbr(constant bitrate)
vbr (variable bitrate)
abr(absolute bitrate)
axxo rips are better since he uses better opensource programs
there lot more advanced settings
k lite is good because of ffdshow filters..
download latest fork (ffdshow tryouts) ffdshow isint updated now
[runs to MPAA to tell on this guy]
[stops halfway and turns back]
On second thought, it's good that these things are around. XD
I just tried your process and this time the movie came out with 5 seconds of one language, 5 seconds of another (same 5 secs as previous just different language), and 5 seconds of another. And it repeated like this for the whole movie.
Idk why it would do this. Any suggestions?
thanks
this is really great guide for all dvdrip lovers.... thanks a lot...
small quest, do we need DVD Decrypter or just copy video_ts folder from dvd ???
keep doing supports like this bro, u inspired many to guide like u...
im not getting good quality picture. i think we need to find better dvdrip software.
100% sure, AXXO is not using this software.
just download Mediainfo, after installing right click on the axxo file if u have, n select Mediainfo. Now see wat it shows.
Surprising it shows tat the avi file was encoded with Virtualdub, n divx codec was used. In the same way Autogk files also shows as encoded by Virtualdub.
Question is wat axxo really uses?
*** There is NO WAY for anyone of us to get even close to aXXo's or any other superior quality DVD rip group's quality just by using such a noob tool as Auto Gordian Knot in fact is !!!!!!! (unless you add a little mysterious spice to it) ;)))
This is the avi information of one of the aXXo's movie called Passengers. Instead of bothering with the Auto Gordian Knot try its much more advanced brother *** the Gordian Knot Rip Pack v.0.35.0 *** which is btw higly customizable + *** Gordian Knot Codec Pack v.1.9 *** Find and Install these two LEARN THEM and you'll be much much closer to your goal. But trust me - never mind what you'll do your rips and his or other PROs' rips won't still be looking the same. Sorry for saying it but... trust me I know what I'm talking about ;) . U know it's not just about you download some smart soft that will do everything for you. It's about years of experience and the perfect knowledge of avisynth as a frameserver and of course of all of its plugins and virtualdub's filters as well and much much more that these guys have. On the top of all of that - there are for example free VDM filters and of course even much more perfect and powerful - the commercial ones. And these groups are not just a bunch of dumb people which aren't able to edit them or write down their own ones. And ... bare in mind that even a hardware could be involved.

Every aXXo movie was encoded with the Xvid codec v.1.0.3
(that is the info about his movies says it which absolutely does not mean it's true) which is included in the Gordian Knot Codec Pack v.1.9 and until a few months ago he was using exactly the same VirtualDubMod's build that the Gordian Knot Pack includes.
Forget about AGK.
I have done it aswell............ It does not depend on the tools you use..........
It depends up on the source video which you rip..................
If the original video is poor in quallity then result will be poor for sure........
Do you know which type of videos are riped by the professional torrent uploaders?
They dont rip from an ordinary DVD........ They rip from HIGHRES DVD's ............
Check out the HIGHRES movies and its file size from the below link...........
http://thepiratebay.org/top/207
If the source file is HIGHRES then there is nothing impossible ..............
If u have a HIGHRES DVD , even u can make it , it's as easy as fart!ng................
So it hardly depend on what tool you use.............................
If you have anything to say then reply me at my mail id: samuels295@hotmail.com
Process takes quite long but in the end its all worth it.
The quality is brilliant!
For those who want to try another alternative (for Mac too!) that has a great 264 encoder, check out HandBrake. It's command line for Ubuntu and works like a champ.
but when i try to make as like that guys screen, i get bad quality bcos width is very small.
so i dont understand what exact prob is with. What i feel is, since we are getting perfect quality for single vob file, then why we cant get perfect quality as per screen...
Experts pl try something and help us... im searching in other few sites too, if i found any solution, sure i'll save all dude's time :)
awesome...
aXXo simply unrars and renames topsite scene releases.. there is no
magic to the method.
Autogk is OUTDATED.
Megui has support for x.264 (mkv, mpeg4, unameit) and has exelent auto encoding qualities.
Your tutorial is good. I am now ripping a dvd which my friend lend me. The movie is "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". Although the DVD came pirated and not the original DVD, I find the motion picture is clear, so I decided to rip it to give me small amount of files 700mb. I googled the aXXo tools he is using and found your site... Really works.. Thanks...
Lhincy G.
u aint gonna be the next axxo with ur normal 256kbps uploads, gotta cash out on something a bit more flashy
thats the only difference between you and them
Thank you so much for sharing this.
Nice Blog!
But here is the tip that matters most no matter what codec/software you decide to use.
Resolution > compression ratio. Don't downsize the resolution to get a better compression ratio. Resolution makes all the difference in terms of sharpness and clarity, when you downsize in the computer you lose a lot of sharpness. If you keep the resolution close to the native resolution you'll get much better results. the higher resolution makes the compression artifacts appear smaller and less noticeable. Compression ratios above 600:1 is where movies start to show noticable artifacts, just stay under that and you'll be good.
XP 64Bit - Custom
Q8200
8GB DDR2
1) Rip DVD to 4GB RAMDISK (DVDShink "BiCubic")
2) Encode from 4GB to 2GB RAMDISK (4 Pass "DivX")
Have PHUN!
If possible, please reply on my email as I dont know whether I'll be able to keep a track of this site...
Thank you!
Use DVD Shrink 3.1 and Nero 8. DVD Shrink is freeware and Nero is easily available on the internet. It rips it to your hard drive and if you have Nero, it will burn it straight to a disc. Problem Solved!
Adjust the "Output resolution setting" to 720 in the "Fixed Options".
If the movie is less than 2 hours 700MB will be perfect. Otherwise select the output size to 800MB.
Got a 19 gb hard drive.
SUCK ON THAT
I can say with personal experience that any software that has the right codecs can rip a DVD perfectly. It is simply the knowledge of settings that is required. It makes a big difference just fiddling around with some of the settings in those advanced menus that you find.
Just a few pointers for all you guys ripping DVDs out there:
1. Keep the Resolution high. keeping the width to around 690px is just fine.
2. Keep the bitrate reasonable. this makes quite a big difference in the sharpness of your video. it should be above 900kb/sec for good quality and around 768kb/sec should do if you want it just about average.
3. Make sure the audio you use is 128kb/sec MP3 or higher. AC3 is the sweetest way to go but then it means a larger file size. Usually 192kbps is a sweet spot, but then you might even be satisfied with 128kbps. anything lower than that and you're better off watching it on a VHS!
4. Unless you have a slow PC, go for 2-pass encoding. This doesn't really improve the quality drastically but it greatly reduces the chances of dropped frames and out-of-sync audio.
5. If you can adjust the framerate of the output video then make sure it is atleast 23fps. Anything lower and your video gets choppy. When I say atleast 23 it means unless you have no other option, try not to use 23fps. 25fps is usually a sweet spot but some like to go higher.
6. Always use Xvid rather than DivX. Xvid gives better compression rates at the same quality and usually DVD players which support DivX can play most Xvid encoded files.
I recommend you use the setting that piyush2202 did:
