Need for Speed : Google Pwns OpenDNS with its own DNS…
I have Dell XPS M1530, 2GB ram.
I tried to install mac by iATKOS_5i, after booting up from the disk, after pressing F8 and typing -v black screen appears , some text scrolls down and gives some BSD unknown erron and the installer wont come, If I continue with out pressing F8 a white screen and apple icon appears and ask to restart the computer, ever time its gives the same msg .... what to do Plez help me out!! Thanx for ur guide!
i mean how much money could they be anyway?
I have done everthing and it works till the end. The dual boot window ,when I select Mac OS X it takes me to windows startup repair. Windows tries to repair pc!
I have checked the bcdedit and path for MAc os x is chain0.
Please help
Another idea is to BACK UP YOUR FILES and install OSX as your main OS using this guide: http://dailyapps.net/2007/12/hack-attack-instal...
Then download and install Parallels Desktop v5 for Mac, and setup and install Windows 7 with-in mac!
Pros
Fast; inexpensive; runs many different OSes, including multiple versions of Windows.
Cons
No accelerated 3-D graphics; spotty hardware device support; no bundled OS included; memory hungry.
or you can check out this tut: http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Dual-and-Tripl...
Note: Make sure you have Parallels Desktop VERSION 5 and newer, otherwise it will not support Windows 7.
thanks for this information but i have a question : is it possible to install parallels desktop with only seven works until now, even if os X is already install ?
In fact, i've my original seven installed and i prefer not to touch it, so , i'd like to repair the boot (or improve it) to have both os running
thanks in advance
I'm having the exact same problem here.
@zman21295: I need a dual boot system and not a host OS running a different OS as a virtual machine (I don't have enough RAM to run the host and guest at the same time)
Thanks
@Bob, Could you tell me your hardware configuration
@Mike, No I'm not aware of any iATKOS release for AMD Yet.. But there is a patch that you can use to make your install work with AMD.. I will update the post with more details on that in a moment..
HD: 120gb WD scorpio 5400 rpm eide, GX: radeon IGP 345M 64Mb video ram, MOBO: ATI RADEON IGP 345M
Also I can seem to get mine to work it comes back with this when I try to type the GUID:
The element data type specified is not recognized, or does not apply to the specified entry.
Run "bcdedit /?" for command line assistance.
a couple questions though,
any problems with a tri boot? I'm thinking of getting rid of my XP install anywayz, but just wondered if there was any problems it would cause (Vista is set as primary)
has anyone had to use the DVD to fix up there Vista boot? just want to get a feel for the likelihood of it happening.
@Tyson : I'n not sure how you can do that, but I know that it is possible. Look into the OSX86 forums..
First I tried it out on my desktop. It started scrolling all the text and got to the part where it appeared to be looking for hard disks/partitions. Each line said something about waiting 100,000ms. This machine has a hardware SATA RAID-5 card at the moment and no regular IDE drive. I had setup an external USB drive with the unallocated space realizing that the RAID-5 card was probably not supported. I thought USB drives were supported?
I then tried my laptop (P4 3.x Ghz), 2GB RAM, etc. This got further. It went to a baby blue background after getting through the same steps that my desktop had jsut stopped on. Then it just sits there....I could leave it there for an hour or so and it is still just a baby blue background....nothing else.
Any ideas what I can do in either situation? I'd love to be able to run Leopard on one fo these machines.
Thanks!

Is it possible ro insrall os x on this laptop and if this is possible is it possible to make a triboot. Os x ubuntu and xp.
if that works, what os do i have to install first? And how do i do the last fev steps on ubuntu or xp?
My problem is that immediately after this step I see scrolling DOS style text which freezes up and never progresses. It displays the message:
"com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components:
use only one style.
I have used the Vista DVD to do a repair when I set up dual XP, Vista with Vista installed first. If you need to do it, it is a piece of cake.
DOwnload a program called EasyBCD, you should be able to select and delete the OSX option from that program.
is it the same thab iATKOS v1.0 with out the i ?
After the line
localhost DirectoryService[51]: Launched Version 5.0 (v514)
the installer stopped with no error message.
Could you, please help me.
Thank you!
Am I able to parition part of the D drive for the OSX install and boot from there? Or must it be on the same hard drive as Vista?
Thanks.

So far I'v installed Leopard and it works, but I cant get the boot.ini to work.
I use 1 disk and it's called C and C got 2 partitions XP is installed on Part. 1 och Leopard on Part. 2.
I've flaged part 1 so that XP works.
I've googled this a lot, but I can't get it right.
You should be able to install on a partition on the separate HD. Once you set the BCD order, it will boot into where the OS was placed.
when I type -v and it starts to scroll texts it stops after "mac framework succesfully initialized", when I wait more a text appears writing "Still waiting for root device" and it repeats that. Can any one help me please?
"localhost DirectoryService[51]: Launched Version 5.0 (v514)"
Any ideas? Thanks so much for your help.
I got a DVD from my friend, but dont know its iATKOS v1.0 or not.
whenever i try to install MAC (only for testing), the screen with the apple sign comes and after a little while, a small sign with a circle and a cross on it pop ups. after that, it just goes on like that.
i tried pressing F8 and then -v, and may be the error i got was " still waiting for the host file" or something like that.
is the same iATKOS v1.0 image or some other.
Sorry, i am a newbie and this question might seem a bit silly.
Thanx in advance
Meep
Well, i guess it cant be any graphics issue as i am able to install that using VMware.
-v -legacy
You mentioned that the last few lines of your guide would have to be changed, but can you please be a bit more specific?
Thanks.
Yes you could dual boot XP and Leopard without much trouble. Instead of using the command line to enter the stuff using bcedit, all you need to do is edit the "boot.ini" file to add a new bootloader entry and then dual boot XP and Leopard.
For more details on how to edit the "boot.ini" file please search google, meanwhile I am planning to write a guide for Windows XP as well..
So my question is how do I get the boot off my computer to run the same way as the boot off the cd?
I couldn't find the unallocated partition either, I just created a partition with no format and used the Disk Utility to format it to Mac OSX Journaled. Make sure it is the last partition on the drive or the utility will screw up everything afterwards. Vista CD was able to repair this for me but it takes a while and is a pain.
SmilinBob
So far I have prepared the partition, restarted the machine and booted into the Leopard iATKOS v1.0 DVD, I have pressed F8 and typed -v at the prompt.
My problem is that immediately after this step I see scrolling DOS style text which freezes up and never progresses. It displays the message:
“com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform” has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components:
use only one style.
thank you fpr your great tutorial! But i have a problem: Everytime i insert the iATKOS DVD at boot and press anykey or press "F8" and "-v" my PC (CPU-Z log: http://tinyurl.com/2nlxnz) restarts. Where is the problem? Teh first steps works without a problem... i hope you can help me.

Hi,
I've been trying to edit the boot.ini. But I'm getting 2 error every time I try.
1 error: "Can't not find windows/system32/hal.dll
2 error. "Chain0 boot error.
I don't get those error att the same time, I've to change the boot.ini.
The XP system will run on HD 0 partition 1 and the Leopard will run on HD 0 partition 2.
boot.ini
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\CHAIN0="Mac OS X" /fastdetect
Execute the following commands :
fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
flag 1
quit
reboot
I noticed it sayed "disk0". Do i need to change that? Thanks.
I tried it everything went fine, all is good, except that when i select Mac OS X at the boot i get an error message indicating chain boot error....any help would be appreciated...
Maz
I had xp installed on harddisk 1 & I installed leopard on hard disk 2
The installation went smoothly
but when I reboot it, instead of either asking for boot option or directly booting in xp, the screen gets an apple logo and the moving circle and it gets stuck
pleae help as it is my main pc
your kind help is despeartely awaited
Thanks

repair your XP with your install CD. your boot.ini was prolly corrupted. if you dont have a cd just get a torrent one from your friend or something
I'm using the Atkos v1.0i R2 and i cant find the darwin bootload after i've been Disk Utility.please help me.
Thanks
Morten
Did anyone of you try it with AMD Athlon XP 2000+ system.
Yes I know it is old but it is for testing. It has 640MB RAM & 128MB Graphics Card.
I currently have Win XP (C:\) & SUSE Installed in it.
How to install OS X Leopard on AMD based system.
c:\CHAIN0="Mac OS X" to the boot.ini file, and now it works, before I installed darwin boot I got the "Chain boot error", now i loads MAC OS X insteed.
I dont know if this is the right way to do it, but it is a way that work. I will probably reinstall everything when the new Dual boot Leopard and XP guide is done.
Now I just got all the non compatible hardware problems...But my DV2222 runs Leopard:)
/Peter
Excelent Tutorial, I've followed right down to the letter.
I'm on my 2nd attempt at loading this on as the 1st time I ruined my Vista Partition, my bad... But using the CD in the drive Leopard booted and ran great [apard from the lack of NIC connectivity]
I'm doing this again, and I now have both Vista and OSX installed but only Vista is Running.
I've set up my boot loader and can successfully choose either MacOS or Vista.
When I do select OSx i get
Chain Booting Error.
I ahve copied the Chain0 file over to the root of C: and also into c:\windows for good measure.
Now OSX will not boot from the CD either, Using Disc Utility all health checks come back fine.
Please Help... i'm off to trawl google!
Niall
Can you copy and paste your boot.ini file?
Thanks a lot
Can you specify how you manually installed darwin boot in XP?
I did everything in the guide except the Darwin bootloader part.
But i chosed to customize and marked "Darwin bootloader" as an optional istallation file. Followed the rest of the guide and instead of doing "BCDEDIT" thing, I changed the boot.ini file to something like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\chain0="Mac OS X Leopard"
So my question is how do I get the boot off my computer to run the same way as the boot off the cd?
So i got the file iATKOS v1.0i and I make a partition on a hard drive in my computer (its actually the whole hard drive, i have 2) and I boot the cd from startup, press f8, and then type -v. Text starts scrolling and it stops at

Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0: Sat Nov 17 02:56:34 SCT 2007; made by ToH:xnu-1228.0.2~1/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386
For a 'simply'-tri-boot :-D must I install all WindowsS before Leopard or can I try Leopard now and add XP later?
Thankyou!!!
I have since fixed my previous problem and got to the partition part and did that fine. But when I go to Utilities Darwin is not an option. What's wrong?
I had the same problem, and fixed by setting my SATA to Native in the BIOS... And in the installation, I selected all the EFI drivers.
Everything is working perfectly, I'm using Leopard right now :D
Oh, thanks for the great guide, Karthik!

I have a Pentium C2D @ 3.0GHz, 2x250GB Seagate HDD under RAID 0. I've tried without the RAID and still get the same problem.
I get the damn "chain booting error" thingy.
Anyone got a fix for that? (Google and search doesn't make me happy :( )
Yet if I boot on a PC with a WD ATA drive, the drive is recognized as well as the partitions.

INSTALL GOES SMOOTHLY UNTIL I GET TO THIS STEP
"Select the Volume you created previously and format it as MAC OSX Journaled Extended. Once the formatting is done the volume is ready for installation."
I CANT FIND THE UNALLOCATED VOLUME THAT I PREVIOUSLY CREATED, SO I CANT FORMAT IT. I LOGGED BACK INTO VISTA TO CHECK THE DISK MANAGER, AND IT SHOWS THAT I DO HAVE AN UNALLOCATED VOLUME THAT IS ABOUT 10 GIGS.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT?
I have 4 computers and really don't want to spend $3,000 on a MackBook Pro. I've set my machine up to dual boot with various other OS, Ubuntu, Xandros, etc. OS X just looks better.
Anyone know for sure?
Thanks
THANKS IN ADVANCE,

Wow guy are pretty smart. Knowing how to make unallocated space and all that. But genius, you have to create a partition from that unallocated space. Duh! That is the only way you will see a disk to format.
Again the same question I have asked twice: does any one know why loading from chain0 on my comp disables laptop options while loading from the cd gives me full control (meaning leopard knows I am using a laptop and not desktop)? Also is there a way to fix it?
After I type "-v" scrolling text stops at the line "IOAPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 64:87"

Uhm I think that you just suck with computers or just plain retarded. I have done this countless number of times on my dell e1450 with many different configurations even tried updating to 10.5.2 which worked but I lost all my wifi, ethernet and sound.
Try installing with no additonal patches and make sure you go to utilitie and install the bootloader
Made all the way to the end and saw my options to boot from Mac OS X or Vista, I chose Mac OS X and it loaded vista. I am stumped. Any ideas?

I have the same problem, when I go to Disk Utility, it cant find anything.
Did you find a solution?
I have a Hitachi ATA drive.
Answers, please!
Did you get it working?
Now I am getting the same error as Timothy, Maz, Peter, Niall, Ceyos and Gery Vessere....
CHAIN BOOTING ERROR!!!!!
Anybody figure it out? Please share.
I fixed my problem by making sure I use the "customize" button when i install using the atkos dvd. You need to make sure to select the x86 bootloader. Then following the posted instructions should get you to boot properly.
I have
Gateway GT5036J
Windows XP Home SP2
Intel Pentium D 930
3GB DDR2 RAM
I have XP installed on C: drive and installed Leopard on D: drive using iAtkos v1.0i R2.
I copied CHAIN0 to C:\ and changed boot.ini to:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Home” /fastdetect /noexecute=optin
C:\CHAIN0=”Mac OS X Leopard”
and I got Chain booting error.
Then I copied CHAIN0 to D:\ and changed boot.ini to:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Home” /fastdetect /noexecute=optin
D:\CHAIN0=”Mac OS X Leopard”
and I got "Cannot find windows/system32/hal.dll" error.
What do I need to do to fix this? Please help.

The result being that Vista's boot record get's messed up. I fixed it from the Vista install DVD once but the second time I had to completely restore. I make a new unallocated partition in Vista that is 10 GB's, and then mount it in Disk Utility and format it. I checked it's "Information" after I formatted it and it says Disk 0 partition 5. When Darwin Boot asks me for the disk I enter 0, and when it asks for the partition, I enter 5. I've also tried the disk as disk 1, partition 5, and get the same message as above, but that time I had to totally restore my computer. What could I be doing wrong that would cause this?
C:\Chain0="MacOSX LEO" and in next boot when in select this, it errors ...

You need this to avoid having the Chain0 error, as you will be using the Darwin boot loader instead of the windows one.
You need to make sure when you create your unallocated space for the Leopard installation you create it as a primary partition, and set it to active. That way when your system restarts after installation it will use Darwin boot loader, which detects your windows (XP) installation on the other partition.

Thank You !
Just dropping by to ask a quick question. I know its probably been asked but, here goes...
I know where to get the ISO img from and all, but was wondering - is this a legal thing to do? I mean, downloading it, then installing it - is it legal? please either, a) reply back here or b) email me : geekforhalo2-at-gmail[dot]com
Many thanks!
Is your partition showing on the left side of the disk manager?
Only if I format it through Vista first. Then, it shows up in the list with my other partitions under my hard drive, but I can't do anything with it; the only way I can see an unallocated partition is if I choose to "partition" my main hard drive, in which case it shows up unallocated, but has no option to format.
Thanks
Try using linux partition editor boot in the linux redhat or wateva cd.. then delete the desired volume you wish to load maac into.. then exit from the editor or simply reset ur machine booting in the iATKOS dvd.. now after the first few steps ull be abl;e to see ur hd in the disk utility prt,, and if u still dontsee it.. then use the iATKOS V1.0ir3 patch.. for iATKOS V1.0r2..

i'm not sure doing everything right. but untill now i didn't get it work.
as describe in the howto after loading iaktos (not sure about my version) i used the disk utility but could not find darwin boot in the menu utilities. even though before i didn't see the difference betwenn letting the system autoboot after pressing f8 the iaktos disk or following the howto. i always said x86 darwinboot after counting down. anyhow i did it the one or the other way the iaktos started and the installtion was easy but then nothing works out like the howto says. even after taking out the disk no system at all was found.
meanwhile i got the computer this fare back that it accepts the iaktos again and maybe through this i will be abel to start again from vista.
otherwise if there are some changes in the howto with a never version of iaktos i could or must say would be thankfull for some help.

How did you make it go away so I can continue installation?
Nope, I'm guessing it has something to do with the laptop's hard drive-dvd drive configuration, because if I just click next where it prompts me choose a disk, the dvd drive is the only option (again..absolutely nothing shows up in the Disk Utility).
Hope there will be an XP version to this guide, to install on a pc where the disk is displayed correctly.
i followed the mentioned steps but got HFS+ partition not found error.. dunno why... wasted my lots of hours
I recently purchaced a sony vaio VGN-CR35 running windows vista.
It just came with a "recovery partition " which i turned into DVD's...
It has Ati graphics card and intel duo core 2.1 ghz chipset..
will this work on it?
If something goes wrong will i be able to restore my system?
thnx!
PLEASE HELP!
ALSO can someone make a video tutorial? that will be Awesomeness!
and your mac partition must be primary
look to your mac partition with EditHexa utility : check wether your partition has a valid boot sector ... The last two bytes should read "AA55".
Else, the boot sector of the partition won't be accepted by chain0.
it works!!!!!!!!!
beautiful mac OSX
made it work with amd prossessor
I have Pentium D
that would help out a lot
Im on windows xp home.

i really want to get dual boot working with xp and tiger.
notice this is for leopard but i bet u can get tiger too. i hope.
i have the mac os x image dvd burt its the current JaS patcher.
i watched the vid and made a seperate partition on here with
acronis disk director. i boot from cd and i get to the darwin bootloader part. i press f8 it goes down the list and i get to "still waiting for root device." errrr
i noticed you use mycomputer > manage > unallolacated for vista.

always hangs and i cant even get the kalyway10.5.1 to boot. any suggestions? if i dont use the -v command it hangs on the white bg with grey apple symbol indefinetly. how long should that page last?
I'm using Partition Magic 8.0 to repartition my drive since I don't have VISTA. How do I setup up the partition using this software? Specifically, I am lost at making sure the partition is 'unallocated'.
Hi guys, I have read all the comments and I wish to give my feedback.
For some reason the Utility -> Darwin Boot option is missing from my installer. I got away by skipping that step and by adding the utility using the customize menu.
The problem is that I can't really get the dual boot working. I get the “BOOT CHAIN0 ERROR”
I am trying to reinstalling and using different DARWIN BOOTS (EFI and x86) but still get that error. Apart from installing the tool do I need to do something like running it?
There is any way to boot into my Mac OS X without the boot loader? There is an option I can use from the CD to load my Mac OS X installation (not the installer)?
I type -v then see scrolling text on the screen.
Then it stop on
localhost DirectoryService[51]: Launched version 5.0 (v514)
Any idea how can the installer continue? Help!
For 2 week s,the installer just stops at
localhost DirectoryService[51]: Launched version 5.0 (v514)
and refuses to continue.
Any idea how can the installer continue?
See the same question asked, but can not fin any answers?
Have pressed F8 as the countdown begins and typed -v at the prompt and hit enter.
The text was scrolling on the screen, and then it stopped.
Thanks to help me out here.
Kind regards
Alain
you need:
jas os x iso about 4 gb.
im not totally sure but im pretty sure its says up there that if you want leopard you have to get tiger first so here is what else you need.
VMware Workstation 5.5 (works best)
dont go on their site because they will have you sign up and stuff
and you wont get a fully working program unless u buy it.
its an amazing program and its on torrents too !
so go find the torrent of
it. it will be just under 80-95 mb .
dont start dloading it if its like 300 mb or something
then go to the wiki
[http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Installation_Guides#VMware_Install_Guides]
still too tired for links. :P
then here.
VMware Install Guides.
i recommend using vmware instead of dual booting.
wouldn't it be ridiculous if you said my computers broken
and they said why and you said because i tried to install mac
on it. if your not completely confident that you can do it use this method.
note. that the installation of mac on vm will be slooow. but after you get it installed you will be able to share cpu between systems and it will be just fine. o and unplug your internet cable when installing it is known to find your internet and deny you... hah!. as long as its not saying waiting for root device in the boot sequence in darwin your fine ! you should hit the blue screen in no time.
if your pc is an average one you will need to turn off your
running apps in xp. try fullscreening vmware. its nice.
ah and dont go telling every sing one of your buddies about this because soon it will hit big and everyone will be doing it. you know how that is.
i drank lots of kronic energy drinks so im ok for today. i sleep alot.
hope this works for you toomany confused ones on this page.

I installed MAC OSX 10.5 Leopard using Leo4all.iso. Everything was going perfect. I was using Leopard. But then my new Mac warned me about the new updates. I said "install and restart" and instaled the updates but now I can't pass the boot screen any more. I dont see the mac desktop. whats the reason? what happpened?
I was wondering just the other day what a bummer it was that i wouldn't be able to use the Apple iPhone SDK and then found this today. Though looking at what the hype is all about has its own fascination, i am more than hoping that it's exactly what i need to get the iPhone SDK working...
I started the download of the image from Mininova a few minutes back and bought a brand-new hard-drive to install it to. I even felt juiced up enough to buy a 3D card that i'd been planning on buying since forever!
Thank you for the guide... hopefully won't run into any problems with installation or setting it up. Since i will be installing it on my second hard-drive, but dual-booting with Vista, i suppose when i enter the hard-drive numumber i put in 1 instead of 0 - granted that the hard-drive is second in the bios as well?
Best Regards.

Did anyone get Leopard and Windows XP in a dual boot working yet?
I've read some people commenting on their boot.ini here, but I understand no-one got it working?
Or?
Let us know (how), thanks! :-)
But I have a problem right a the beginning: when i boot from the DvD and type in -v after pressing F8, about 4 lines scroll down and then the PC reboots. I never got into the Installer... what can I do not to make this happen ?
Thanks !
fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
flag 1
If I'm installing on a second hard drive, do I have to change it to rdisk1? or does it matter?
I'm trying to dual boot with XP and haven't been successful at all.
When you access the DVD from Windows, it'll show you that size. Unrecognizable format or something to that effect.
That command is to set your Windows partition to be active, so that you can start back to windows... And assuming you have XP installed on the first drive - obviously - use the command as it is.
When i clicked on 'Utilities->Disk Utility' all the partitions (NTFS) were listed, but not the unallocated space.
Since i was installing on a secondary hard-drive, i recreated the partioning on that (2 partitions, one free space - which i later formatted as NTFS from windows and the other to Mac OSX Extended Jounraled)
Other than this, no hangs or problems at all... the setup went as smooth as possible.
Anyways... am starting up Mac OS X for the first time. hopefully will start without any problems.
Wahahahahhaha!
I don't have any problem booting XP with or without the command though. I wish booting into OS X was that easy. I'm still having Boot Chain0 Error like everyone else.
I used Roxio and it burned at 4.0x which took approx 9 minutes. So 15 minutes sounds just about right.
Are you experiencing any problem specifically? Maybe i can help out.
After re-running the setup for the fifth time, got it to work. I'll post confirmation once i start Leopard completely along with what i did to get past the Boot Chain 0 Error!
Ok... so what you need to do to ensure that you don't run into the Boot Chain0 Error is to hit Customize before beginning install with default settings, and checking the Bootloader from the tree. You can select the Drivers as well, but it led to the MAC being hung during startup which led me to reinstalling again.
There are a few things extra in the tutorial above... but if you follow it close enough - with the exception of checking Bootloader from the components to be installed where as the author of this blog said to install the default package - you'll have MAC running on your PC soon enough.
I will post what i did in detail soon...
Best Regards.
Salman Khalid.
http://www.vistabootpro.org/
It'll let you remove all the unwanted items from the Bootloader menu. You could use the command line, but the GUI makes things much much simpler.
Best Regards.
Can you write down the details that you did quickly !!! Thank you very much.......
I resized my partition using Partition Magic 8, the partition was unallocated.
When i go to Darwin Boot after entering the HD and Partition info and saying Yes to the prompts i get this:
hdiutil: unmount: "s2" failed to unmount due to error 2
hdiutil: unmount failed - No such file or directory
startupfiletool: opendev(s2): no such file or directory
dd: s2: Read-only file system
hdiutil: mountvol failed - No such file or directory
you can quit the terminal.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I know thats the correct partition and drive. Any help would be appreciated.
Any solutions?
Read my comment made on March 29th... Comment no. 19019 on this page.
I got the same error but successfully bypassed it by making a slight customization to the install package.
Try deleting the partitions entirely - if you have a seprate drive, then delete it completely and recreate partitions; i ran into trouble over previous installations that were resolved after re-doing the partitions.
I am tied down with some work, but will post what i did exactly to get it to work later.
@Everyone
Other than RESTART (shutdown works perfect, but restart closes everything and goes to a load screen, but doesn't restart) and problems with setting up the Network card (i have an intel onboard ethernet card) eveything else is just perfect.
I found a solution to installing the LAN card on it and will give it a go as long as they approve my registration (so that i can download the driver info). So hopefully will be up on the internet in MAC as well. Also got Office 2008 for MAC OSX and iLife 8.0 on DVDs and am gonna try installing them to see if they work or not.
BTW - my windows partitions are 100% accessible via MAC OS X!
I just re-wrote this guide in my own words, with the changes that i made to get it to work and to bypass the Boot Chain0 Error. I hope that helps you guys out.

I read ur post but didn't know what customization to change (what package to add). I installed it without any packages (iATKOS v.1) which means that it should be working perfectly. I think that you have to install the Darwin bootloader X86 from the customization menu only if u have iATKOS v1.0ir2. I had the other version so I didn't change anything but it didnt work.
As for the partition. The Mac didnt recognize it when it was unallocated so what I did is that i changed it to allocated by choosing the size of it. I didn't format it though nor assigned a letter for it so that it doesnt show up when I click on My Computer in Windows.
Best Regrads,
Ahmad Marafi (Midoe)
Guys, use iATKOS v1.0ir2 and before installing it click on customize and add the EFI bootloader Package (Darwin EFI + 2 Stock Items)
It'll work right away..
Im stuck with no drivers though.. i'll look for them sometime soon..
you have to create a volume with a certain size (5 Gb at least) but don't format it or assign a letter to it. Just leave it the way it is. You'll be able to see it.
Basically, It's not unallocated.. It's a Volume!
I have the same problem with you though. I don't know how to install drivers. Does anyone know?
Thanks for the info
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopi...
So probably a dum question... but this is the full Leopard, wrong? The image was 2.5 GB in size... the original MAC OS X is over 5-7 GB in size...
What´s the problem here ?
Thanks !
check it out here: http://maconpc.distinctlyjordan.com/2008/03/20/...
I installed Office 2008, iLife 08, and a bunch of small Mac softwares on mine and everything's working fine. Had to restart download of the SDK (after 80% completion) as i lost power and the UPS wasn't charged, and though i was using firefox to download, it wouldn't resume later! :(
Leave a note if you get it working.
The interface of Vista, i like better than MAC OS X. But there's no denying that MAC OS X is way faster. I love the way the Folders/Setups are shown (autoruns have icons rather than buttons - sort of)
Furthermore... i just love the interface of Office 2008 on MAC! And the mail client is faster than Outlook - though lacking some features but Microsoft should include that as well in the Office suite for windows as a light version to outlook.
Salman, any ideas or direction you can provide here? I found a collection of drivers in the news groups but not sure where to go from there.
Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT (512MB) that comes with the M15x Alienware laptop

well im trying to install Leopard on a second partition of my hard drive(other partition has vista on it) and im using the iATKOS 1.0i dvd and when i booted it, i hit F8, and typed -v, then it looks like its doin its thing and then it stops here:
Extension "com.apple.driver.itunesphonedriver" has no explicit kernel dependency; using version 6.0
and like every 2 mins it will say "Still waiting for root device"
it gets me thinking, i have an ipod touch(very very close to iphone) and it says "itunes phone driver" hmmm....but my ipod wasnt plugged in...i have the cord to plug it in thats plugged in, but the ipod isnt attatched to the cord....soooo does anybody have any idea on how to fix this?

I am getting a hang somewhat. It is in a loop after the disc runs. I forget the actual msg but I think it has to do with my hardware.

Intel DP35DP Q6600
No luck with that yet. I have an Intel on-board ethernet card (Intel Pro v/100) and i guess its highly unlikely for me to find any drivers for that for MAC.
I'm going to try and use a USB Wireless receiever that my brother used on his previous laptop... if that is detected and installed by MAC OS X then since i already am running my DSL over a wifi router, i won't have any problems connecting to the internet.
Try their website... i had no trouble finding the MAC drivers for the OS x from their site...

I am still looking for Creative soundblaster audigy live drivers for mac. Anyone?
Best Regards.
I installed per the guide contained here:
http://maconpc.distinctlyjordan.com/2008/03/20/...
I then get a copy of a driver utility file at this forum here:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopi...
I then followed the instructions for editing the .plist file to recognize my LAN card here:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopi...
This worked for my Yukon 88E8050 PCIe card.
Hope this helps some others out there struggling with this. I have been working on my machine every weekend for a few weeks now and it's a relief to get it to finally work. Good Luck!
Once I installed again (followed Salman's Blog), my computer now just reboots. It reboots too fast for me to read the message before hand. I'm thinking of following this guide... http://maconpc.distinctlyjordan.com/2008/03/20/... using Kalway 10.5.1 My connection is somewhat slow, so it will take a few days to download.
I've heard that Kalway is more stable than iAtkos... furthermore includes more drivers and apps than the iAtkos build. (You can even tell by the 2GB+ size over that of iAtkos)
I haven't started download yet, but if am unable to get the LAN or sound, etc. working on iAtkos, might think about giving Kalway a shot. Moreover, there is something wrong wiht iAtkos's restart on my system, as it hangs rather than restarting!
Furthermore, the iAtkos is a bit too hacked for my taste. (just go into "About this Mac" dialog and you'll know what i mean. I'd like it to be just perfect!)
True that i may not be able to get my ethernet card working on Kalyway's Hacked Leo but i could always go for a cheap card that it does support, and i am sure i could find Soundblaster's drivers given the time. As for not being able to use my ATI R3650 to its full capacity, its not like i'll be playing any games on the MAC OS X, besides ATI has a few OS X drivers up on their site which i haven't tried out yet.
I'll let you know once i get it working.
Is the Darwin boot loader compatible with the Grub boot loader (which loads Windows boot loader if I select Win Vista in its menu)????
If not, what should I do to make all OSs availible?
Thanks in advance,
Federico
Unfortunately, Nvidia doesn't provide any drivers for Mac OS X :(
and my gf isn't supported by their website because its a laptop gfx not a desktop one.
I can understand their lack of drivers for MAC OS X... but they should have support for the Graphics Card on their site regardless of it being a laptop one.
Oh wait... i have Nvidia 8400G M in my laptop. When i go to NVidia's site it tells me to grab the latest drivers from my Laptop Vendor's site (i.e. HP) however if i proceed ignoring the warning and download the drivers, they work fine as well.

any help is greatly apreciated!

What drivers did you install to get this message? I wok up this morning to find the same message on my screen but restarted and everything appears to be working fine, I am posting this from my Hackintosh now.
I don't really recall which site i downloaded it from. Could you point to where you downloaded it from? (Do have an on-board intel ethernet card?)
I got the message continuously for like 15 times at-least before i gave up on it. Tried again now but didn't work.
Kalyway download completed and am about to burn it to DVD. Will be installing it soon now.
http://msalmank.blogspot.com/2008/04/driver-hav...
I got the drivers for my onboard Marvell Yukon Ethernet 88E8050 card here:
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=ace718...
There are multiple drivers in this file that you can select from, not sure if Intel was one of them. Kalway had the drivers for my sound card as part of the install and all I had to do otherwise was update my video card driver.
It's working great so far with no problems to report. Have installed numerous apps as well as networked it with Windows machines.
Good Luck!

execute the fdisk -e commands.. they'll activate the vista partition..
if ur keyboard doesnt work and u cant type anything just keep restarting ur pc and start iAtkos with the -s command over and over until ur keyboard starts working..
I already did the fdisk -e commands. My vista partition is active. My keyboard works too. When I boot up my vista reinstallation cd, it says that drive C:'s size is 0 bytes and won't give me information about it.
Thanks for the help anyways

trying to find the drivers for my network card now
Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet
Try using the Vista installation DVD and repair. See if that works for you.
I finally got the time to install Kalyway's OS X Hackintosh... and it is just awesome! Unlike iAtkos it shows MAC OS X 10.5.1 in the About dialog and so on.
furthermore so far no problems, like restart and shutdown works like a charm.
However, i have been unsucessful in installing the LAN drivers for my Intel Pro V/100. Tried a lot of drivers and methods but no luck yet. Will try again over the weekend. But overall, the Kalyway works much better than iAtkos.
Also, would any other 0's be changed to 1 as well (particularly in the inputting of the commands "fdisk -e/dev/rdisk0" as well as "bcdedit /set {GUID} PATH \chain0)?
Thank you.
The reinstallation DVD wont recognize the vista drive. Therefore it says ot cant find any vista operating systems.
@Midoe
I didnt delete it.
I used kalyway's and it worked great but I need the same driver for network card as you do. I've tried a few but nothing hasn't worked either. Let me know if you find a driver. I'll keep trying, too.
For your first question; YES.
But for the other commands such as “fdisk -e/dev/rdisk0″ - NO.
The fdisk command is to point to your Vista Partition, not the OS X one.
Ditto to you as well... i will try and locate the drivers tomorrow or on Sunday. Can't risk looking for them tonight, as it is often time-consuming and i have tons of work to wrap up.

I downloaded the iATKOS v1.0ir2 iso and burned it to a dvd for install on an unallocated partition on my hard drive along with Vista which is currently running. As soon as the disc boots up the countdown starts and I press F8 to enter "-v". Whether I do this or not, I get the response "/Library/Preferences/SystemConifguration/com.apple.Boot.plist not found" and then the countdown restarts.
I was wondering if there is something wrong with the iso I downloaded or if the install I have is just wrong altogether but I can't even get the actual installation to begin.
I was hoping someone would know what the problem is and have a possible solution. Thanks!
Im currently running:

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150

I would advice using the Kalyway DVD instead of the iAtkos one.
Did you burn at the lowest burn speed? (My Roxio software burned at 2x i think - at lowest possible)
Try re-burning the image, but if it doesn't work still, then try re-downloading. I would advice Kalyway DVD.
I have two questions:
how does ist work, when i want to install OS-X with Windows XP Professional (x64), instead of Windows Vista?
I need to know the part, where you copy the file "chain0" to C:. With XP you don't have the Boot-Configuration-Tool BCDEdit...
my second question:
I've downloaded "iATKOS v1.0ir2" and at the installation i've had no "darwin boot" under "utilities" and so i missed this part. How can i catch up this point?
please help me with my problems!
Thanks, Lemon8
My only issue was in Darwin I, instead of selecting drive "0" (which, when I did so, failed to mount the Darwin Boot files), I had to use drive "1". Other than that, everything works exactly like you said it should! I don't know why all these other people are having so much trouble.....n00bs! lol
Would the fact that I have an AMD machine be an issue in using the Kalyway DVD?
I downloaded the iATKOS (2.44 GB) .. i followed the steps here and it worked fine.
I have some questions/problems though:
1. I couldn't find the unallocated partition in the list. so i had to go to Windows XP and format it as NTFS, then i went back to the Mac installation and reformat it to the correct partition.
2. Also, I couldn't find the Darwin Boot option in the utilities. Why? I had to go installing without this option. is this a problem?
3. After rebooting, and after the Windows XP started, I can't edit the boot.ini .. or i don't know how to edit it to make both mac and windows work! i haven't tested my Mac installation yet ! :)
Can anyone help?
I can see the darwin countdown .. 5,4,3,2,1 and then i get the same screen as if i pressed F8 ... i choose the partition i Installed Leopard on, i hit ENTER .. nothing happens. .. i get the same screen .. again i can choose the partition .. i tried some commands but they don;t work ..
I must say .. the step where : SELECT UTILITIES > DARWIN BOOT etc.
I didnt have that option .. so i just installed without those steps .. is this crucial for Mac to work ? ..
if so .. how to fix ?
I am currently stuck at -v command, it stopped at "root filesystem is read only; skipping kernel link data generation". it also said that "secondary PCI IDE is Disabled" .

Please help me how can i fix this??
Thanks a lot.

Your contribution is greatly appreciate and hopefully i can successfully install it on my notebook or desktop. By the way, i figured a way to convert any windows vista os default language(english) to any target language. If you have not discovered how to complete this i can help you out.
I installed the MAC in a dual boot with Vista but if I start Mac normaly it freezes in the first screen ... to start it I must use the safe mode command (-x). Can U help me, please. I have a Acer 5920. Many thanks. Best regards.
except i had the same problem w/ not being able to see my hdd, so partitioned it w/ iatkos and that worked well, but everuytime i start leopard, it goes to the gray screen then freakin restarts
what is the solution!!!!!
and whenever i boot up and choose mac os x it goes to teh gray apple logo, spins around the nrestarts
my computer keeps doing the same thing. i could not find any one who knew how to fix that. i was told it was a problem with the OSX i downloaded, but i tried another one and it did not fix it. if you fnd any thing else out let me know. i will keep looking.
I don't think it'll differ for AMD. But try a search over at osx86 forums...
Best Regards.
Salman Khalid.
P.S. Sorry for the delay in response, i got tied down with office work.
"Where would i get the Kalway DVD? What would be the difference between using iATKOS and Kalway? What should i search to find the Kalway DVD, and what is the difference between iATKOS v1.0 and iATKOS v1.0ir2?"
I downloaded from MiniNova. Do a search on "Kalyway" and you'll find it. Though seed count may seem low, it downloaded quicker than iAtkos! Even though it's larger in size!
iAtkos is a really good hack of MAC OS X, and they let you know. Go into About after installing i Atkos, and it says iAtkos and their version not the MAC OS X logo or anything. Instal Kalyway, it's the perfect MAC OS X system - other than modding MAC OS X to work on Intel, they changed nothing else!
If you are downloading iAtkos then download iAtkos 1.0ir2, not 1.0. IR2 release had a few issues fixed.
However, i would recommend downloading KALYWAY instead of iAtkos. I don't know the exact differences, but KALYWAY is definitely better and i haven't run into any problems with it so far. With iAtkos problems always existed, startup problems, or restart not working, and so on. But with Kalyways, its working perfectly.
Search using the keyword "Kalyway" in Mininova and you'll find the image. Trust me, its better than iAtkos. I will post instructions for installing using Kalyway on my blog later tonight - msalmank.blogspot.com
Best regards.

would it work? im supposing so.
but what i would like to know is at the start do i make 2 partitions initially or just the one partition when installing vista
eg. split the 100gb to two 50gb
or 100gb with vista installed.

is this because im using the Tiger version 10.4.8?
Just managed to finally install iAtkos v1.0ir2, I have to admit, Salman Khalid's tutorial on his blog is just amaazing. Very clear, concise.

Thank you soo much!
Now for drivers....
You searched for "KALWAY". It is "KALYWAY"
You missed the Y after the L - in the middle.
Oh and you can dual boot with Vista just like with iAtkos. I have it working perfectly against Vista.
"I’ve been downloading Kalyway for 5 days at about 5k/sec… slow slow slow. I’m still only at 50 percent."
NO WAY! Really? It took me approx. less than 2 days to download the whole thing and i thought i was getting it slow...
"The first time I downloaded Kalyway only took about 4 days but the file was corrupt,"
You didn't happen to delete it, did you? If it was a winzip file and when you used Windows built-in compression to unzip it or used even the latest WinZip and it said something about the size being corrupt or not extracting the actual image file (in case of windows compression) then don't worry!
USE WINRAR! When i extracted using Windows Compression, it extracted all but the image file. When i extracted using latest WinZip, it threw an error at the end of compression saying that the size of the uncompressed file didn't match according to what the compressed file had - and deleted it. But when i used WinRar, it unzipped perfectly.
I will try WinRar and see what happens. The program I first used to extract it would just delete the iso file every time after finishing. No error message. I was like WTF? So, I tried using Windows' built in extractor and it gave me an error message. So I thought all was lost. Thanks for the tip, I hope it works!
thanks for the help
You need to hit customize before installation begins (of OS X) and select the bootloader. I'm afraid you'll have to re-install the OS X to do this now. (assuming you are talking about iAtkos)
I can pretty much imagine how you felt at that point! :D
I'm positive that it'll extract with WinRar...
are you going to create a tutorial for Kalway? ... I can't wait...seriously..
Posted a little information about Kalyway there.
I was going to write a full-fledge tutorial, but i realized most of the process was what i did to install iAtkos (as explained on my blog). So i wrote a new post detailing what differs and needs to be taken care of to install iAtkos.
visit my blog; msalmank.blogspot.com
in my previous post, i meant; "...what differs and needs to be taken care of to install Kalyway" not iAtkos.
Thanks alot!! and yeah I got what you meant :)
Once i get Kalyway on my hands i'll give it a shot."
Thanks!
Since you have the AMD processor, i advice you to download the Kalyway 10.5.2 image as that targets both intel and amd processors.
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work on your laptop.
Thanks
After burning iAtkos or Kalyway or any other hacked OS X, don't look at the size of the DVD in Vista/XP and think it didn't write correctly. Because most of the DVD files are in a format unknown to windows and thus the size is all wrong. It is mostly the size of the files visible within Vista usually.
Secondly, since you are getting that error when trying to boot-up from the DVD, don't assume that there is anything wrong with the image. For some reason, iAtkos requires you to burn at the minimum speed possible! In Roxio my max speed is 16x or 8x, but the minimum was 4x. Before burning i set it to 4x (it is usually set to the fastest speed possible by default). Re-burn the image at a slow speed and try again.
If doesn't work, re-download. But like before, i recommend downloading Kalyway instead of iAtkos.
Best Regards.

I upgraded to Kalyway 10.5.2 but no luck with the Intel Pro/100 Network card. It still doesn't work.
Same here... upgraded to 10.5.2 but no luck with the Pro/100 card. So many solutions out there, and so far none has worked!
I'm downloading the full version of Kalyways 10.5.2 as well... am going to give that a go. I am thinking of going out and purchasing a card that is supported by MAC OS X... Modem cards are pretty cheap here; from Rs. 100 to 300 - that's like $2-$5.

Any ideas what is going on?

WinRar did do the trick, but when I burned it, I got an error that the length didn't match. I ignored the error, but after I burned it the DVD wasn't bootable. So I'm guessing there really is something wrong with the file.
I'm using a IDE DVD drive and upon boot the first and only error stop me from going forward. <>
I tried using a IDE to SATA plug but my motherboard just won't detect the DVD drive (i think its the drive duo its not that old).
Please someone tell me how to install with a IDE DVD drive without using the convertor. I read on the insanyMAc forum that it is possible but no one wants to teach, and i can't post topic nor reply on that forum even after i registered (really sick of it).
Please help, i am using a copy of iATKOS 1.0 ir2, with a IDE Samsung DVD drive, a 250GB IDE HD (1partition windows/2nd leaving for MAC), and my motherboard is an ASUS P5k.

could anyone tell me what this means? am i able to run the hack on my cpu? thanks in advance
This really sucks *** i wan to have mac and vista on 1 system..... :(
So far i've been pretty lucky in this regards; downloaded iAtkos, no problems creating a boot DVD from that... downloaded Kalyway 10.5.1 and it worked. Downloaded Combo Update for kalyway 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 and that worked too!
And am downloading the new 10.5.2 Kalyway full DVD (am giving that a go cos i still haven't gotten my LAN working) and hopefully won't have any problems with that!
is there anyone in the same boat as me?
Also, 10.5.2 fixed my lan card.
Also, when I was doing the bcdedit commands, I screwed up a bit, so I have a few extra options when I boot up. How would I go about deleting them?
Thanks
-Aassem
Hmmm... i had a similar problem once, but when i reinstalled, it didn't happen again. (I've probably done over 15 successful installations in the past week - most of the time the OS X becoming unfunctional due to some file that i try out to get my Intel LAN card to work - i'm planning to install 10.5.2 full release of Kalyway once it downloads completely (as of now, its downloaded 74.3%) and sticking with that, even if my LAN doesn't work.)
Anyways... for your boot menu problem, i mentioned on my blog this utility; Vista Boot Pro... download that (its free) and it'll let you remove your unwanted boot menu options... http://www.vistabootpro.org/
99.9% of Kalyway 10.5.2 downloaded.... Am going to start up roxio to get ready to burn it...
will post how this goes later.
Which torrent did you downoad? Is it "kalyway leopard 10 5 2 dvd intel amd 4122511 tpb" from mininova? I might try to download that one too, see if it's faster. I'm at 80% right now with 10.5.1 I think this is day 7!
Yes... that's the one that i downloaded. took almost 2.5 days for it to download.
7 Days! Yikes thats a lot. Did you try stopping the torrent and starting it back up? (i do that sometimes and it connects back to more seeds most of the time)
If you do download the 10.5.1 one completely, then also grab the 10.5.2 combo update from mininova to update the 10.5.1 system to 10.5.2 after you have it installed.

Did this error occur after installation was done? or during installation? Or did it occur before starting?
If it occurred after or between, then check the components you selected. Uncheck any matching the error...
I'm afraid that doesn't make any sense to me. Could you tell me your machine's specifications, and the image that you are using?
Thanks for your instructions. I have a little problem with booting Mac. As I am typing -v it starts scrolling but soon comes to:

Try formating the partition as Linux instead of leaving it unallocated.
When I try to boot into Leopard (verbose mode, so I can see its progress), it gets to the point "unknown SIGSEGV code 0" and freezes.
What do I do?

Now, when I choose to boot leopard, my computer gets through about 8 lines, and then suddenly restarts on me.
and after a while appears "Still waiting for root evice"
help please.
A guy Pete posted the following link: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopi...
Check if the problems you guys are having are mentioned in that with a resolution.
I've got leopard installed on my vaio laptop but get the chainboot error.
When i go to the command propmt none of the bcdedit commands listd work.
I need to change the path to c:\chain0 as suggested but it's erroing out with "an unknown command was specified"
I have entered bcdedit/ set{5d134b8e-073b-11dd-a1de-a27ad10ab714}PATH /Chain0
What am i doing wrong?
Do you have Vista or XP?
If you haven't already, I would recommend reading through the previous comments. I believe your question has already been answered.
I have AMD Athlon 3200 processor and vista installed i had make secon portion on hdd in vista and also installed osx 10.5 successfully but after restart at Darwin Boot Loader i press -s and try to enter
fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
flag 1
quit
reboot
but when i enter fdisk -e/dev/rdisk0 it show that not a command or path found error and also not booting in any operating system not even vista
I've got vista home premium.
I've had a read and cannot find an alternative to the bcdedit commands. I've read elsewhere i can boot osx using darwin but that only takes me to the install setup?
If you entered the command as you wrote in your post;
"bcdedit/ set{5d134b8e-073b-11dd-a1de-a27ad10ab714}PATH /Chain0"
then that would not work! If you wrote;
"bcdedit /set {5d134b8e-073b-11dd-a1de-a27ad10ab714} PATH /Chain0"
then that ought to work.
As for the bootChain error, you'll have to re-install, and before installation begins, hit Customize and check the Boot option selected. Make sure you have the MBR one selected and remove the GUID one. That ought to remove the Bootchain error.
Interestingly if i enter the bcdedit command as admin it returns the error unknown command but if i run as normal it says access to botstore denied.
I have been entering as you suggested was just a typo before. D'oh.
Still no luck with the Intel Pro v/100.
Anyone who had luck with getting that to work?
:D
Anyone else had this and got past it?
Looks like you chose some component that didn't bode well with your system and thus OS X is skipping out on you. In the Customization screen, don't select anything else other than the default selections but the MBR Boot option (removing the GUID option).
Its a bit like Cross Dressing though .
Got it booting to osx by installing as you suggested and then -x ing from darwin.
Means i can't use net, sound etc but now i know it works (and fast) i'll give kalyway a go.
If i don't boot in safe mode in verbose mode it hangs at a message about the kernel i386 (i'll post exactly when i get chance to note it down)

but when i enter fdisk -e/dev/rdisk0 it show that not a command or path found error and also not booting in any operating system not even vista

I don't see why it wouldn't work on that! Are you using iAtkos? Or Kalyway 10.5.1 or 10.5.2?

Do you know which network cards have drivers for Mac? I got a corega gigabit network card but it didn't work either. If I know exactly which one works, I'll go out and get that one.
Unfortunately i haven't had the chance to find that out myself either. I have been planning on buying a LAN card that would install on the MAC OS X... but been extremely busy at the office lately.
Will try to get it tomorrow. I have a perfect MAC OS X running. The only problem is my sound card (i need Creative Sound Blaster's drivers) and the LAN card....
thanks for your guide to dual boot, but my question is b4 I start the process, I already have Vista installed on my comp, with all the programs and settings I like, If I were to dual boot would I lose this data?
Also if something does go wrong in the process can I just put in the Vista DVD and repair without losing any data, becuase my father would be very upset if all his files were deleted, and all my music would be gone too.
I could back them all up, which I probably will. But I dont want to go through the hassle of having to install all my programs again, and stuff like that.
Thanks again

You're doing it right, choose the top one. I had the same problem. When I installed it again, I choose checked the box next to bootloader under customize and that seemed to fix it.
Now I'm getting the problem of the circle with the line through it. It gets to the screen with the grey apple on the grey background with the spinning loading circle. After about a minute a box appears on top of the apple (around the stem) with a circle with a line through it, like the no smoking sign.

Yes, this guide has taken over a month for me to write and I have tried this out every possible combination of hardware setup I could possibly test, and I can assure you that if followed correctly you can easily have Leopard and Vista in a dual boot setup.
Loads of readers have sent me emails, dropped comments on my previous guides on installing Leopard and here is the guide for all you guys who waited so long patiently.
Disclaimer : This Guide is for educational purposes only, I suggest you buy yourself a original Mac. Also please do not post links to the Torrent’s as they will be removed.
Well before we proceed with the guide, here is the stuff that you will need for a successful dual boot setup.
* Vista Already installed on your Primary Hard Disk.
* iATKOS v1.0 DVD. (Do not ask me where you can download this)
* Windows Vista Boot DVD (Just incase something goes wrong)
Well now that you have everything ready, lets get started then. Please note this is going to take sometime so I suggest you have some Music playing near by and grab yourself a cup of coffee while you do this. Sit tight, here we go……….
* Install Vista on the First Partition of your Hard Disk. I am not going to elaborate into How to install Windows, I hope everyone knows it. If you already have it installed then read on..
* Right click on My Computer and Click on Manage. Select Disk Management. Now Create a new Volume for OSX by shrinking an existing volume. You need atleast 5GB of space and the new volume should show up as Unallocated.
* Make sure that the partition shows up as Unallocated, else repeat the previous step.
* Now restart the machine and boot into the Leopard DVD that you burned using the iATKOS v1.0 DVD Image.
* Press F8 as the countdown begins and type -v at the prompt and hit enter.
* You should see scrolling text on the screen now.
after this i get a Grey screen with a colored circle as the mouse pointer and after 25 min my sys gets shutdown plz help me out

1. if i could dual boot with the real cd

4. if it would be better(safer) to dual boot with tiger because more of the hacks for the drivers are out there

HERE IS THE PROBLEM!
When i choose MAC OS i get a message like:
CHAIN0 error.....
HOW can i fiz this????
PLEASE!
Its only included by Win Vista.
thnx.
I have installed the iatkos v1.0 r2 Version on my PC, but there is a problem with the followiung step:
....
Again select MAC OS X, and now as the timer counts down, Press F8. You would see a list of partitions on your disk with their names. Select the partition with MAC OSX installed by using up/down arrows and press ENTER.....
When i press F8 i can see 3 partitions:
1. My Recovery Part.
2. Windows Vista
3. rdisk0s03 ->here i have installed Mac OS
When i select the third partition and press enter the only thing that happens is that the Darwin Bootloader loads itself....
Have anybody an idea about that?
I've made a picture of the error message.

HALPS!
Now i have another problem,my hard drive wont show up in the Disk Utility! Help required badly. I really want to try it out.
So, I’ve made shrunk the volume (It does show up as “Unallocated”), and I’ve booted into the DVD, and I’ve gotten into the Leopard installer. But when it tells me to pick my install location, I get nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada. All I get is the “iATKOS v1.0i” but it says it can’t install into that volume.
HALPS!"
hi patrick
after u have shrunk the volume u have to make it as a new partition. Then boot the DVD ok ;) . All the best with your installation
I think it may have something to do with the fact that my laptop has two hard drives, and Leopard is installed on a partition of the secondary drive (Drive D).
I was dubious if I should copy the chain0 file to :C or not, so I decided to follow the instructions.
So, should I copy the chain0 file to :D (On a partition of which OSX is installed) and replace every instance of "c" in the command line commands with "d" or something like that? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the help, btw, Praveen.
I downloaded EasyBCD and deleted the previous Mac OSX entry because I got a chain boot error. I also deleted the chain0 file off of C and put it on D, and did the command line entries again.
I restarted my computer and I got the "pick your OS" screen. I chose Mac OSX, and I got a loading bar that said "Windows is loading files". The bar finished, and I got the small cycling loading bar that said, "Microsoft Corporation" so I thought Vista was starting up. Then, I got a blue screen and something called the Startup Repair opened.
Help! How can I boot with EasyBCD and use the Mac OSX installation? If someone who knows how this works/has had this problem too, please let me know.
When I choose Windows Vista, it boots into Vista just fine. I only have trouble with OSX.
I think it might have to do with the fact that I have it on my D drive. Should I do a clean install of OSX? I'll try doing a clean install of OSX on my D drive, and I'll get back to you.

i hope that i could work on my PC so that I can use Leopard instead of Linux on my PC. anyway, i already have a MacBook that I bought last year
Also I attempted to install on my old system using a just the ide h-drive unallocated fromat, and it gets to a point where it says it is waiting for a root sector which is further than i had gotten on the first system. THe second system is an asus k8v-se deluxe with 3200+ 64 bit processor, similar video card just an agp instead of pci express. It is my understanding for that system that you need to write the image file onto a HD and run the installation from the disk it's self. I tried various programs and methods, and to no avail. some kind of walkthrough on imaging an ISO of the installation onto a hard drive would probably help me in my quest between the two options I have attempted. Let me know.

When I hit F8 and type -v it begins to scroll text and gets to the following item:
Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 4230450.
It stays on that for about 5 minutes and gives the following error:
EBIOS read error: Device timeout
Block 6598912 Sectors 64
Has anyone seen this before or know how I should proceed?
I have a problem. Pressing F8 does not go into the Darwin boot loader. It is loading straight up to Leopard and I can't get continue these instructions and get Vista to Load.

so i want to ask that can i use this tutorial to install mac on my pc...??? or is there any other way to install it...
All the steps looks pretty basic.
I have installed it, run the commands and rebooted.
After choosing the Mac OS X option at the boot menu, I press F8 and then choose the correct hard drive partition that has the Leopard installation on it. Then the white screen with the apple appear. After about 10 second the loading ring appears. The after about 30 seconds a dark grey screen descends down the page and it says I need to restart in several different languages. I do this but it just takes me back to the boot menu and its starts again from there. Anybody know what the problem is and how to fix it?
Thanks

I've got a 20 gb partition that's labeled unallocated, as required. Besides this, I've got my C:, about 201GB, and HP Recovery D:, about 11 GB. But when I go to my disk utility, I don't see any option with the 20 gb partition. I see three options. The first option is the name of my hard disk - Hitachi HD... . It shows up to be about 230 GB, the actual size of my harddisk....., then under that, there are two options, ones for the C: with capacity ~200GB, and the D:, about 11 GB.
In the Hitachi HD... 230 GB option, I went to partition, and it has all three components, including the 20 GB free space. But it doesn't show under disk utility. I wish I could provide screenshots. Any solution here.
Thanks. :)

anyway i saw that no one else had the same problem so there must be prob with compability, but im fed up for now even to check wiki list for all compatible parts
When it next booted up, I got as far as the command prompt, typed -v, then after a few lines it stopped. Something about a panic debugger and an "FPU segment overrun in kernel thread context" at line 547 of /SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1228/osfmk/i386/fpu.c. What does this line of code do? The file isn't on the installation disk. Is there any way to install without a fpu option, if it's somethihng to do with the fpu?
I'm running XP on an unknown OEM motherboard with 2.4GHz Celetron CPU. I'm using AMI BIOS dated 2003 and an 845 chipset.
If I just start it up with no options, it keeps coming up with the same message telling me to restart my computer again and again.
I've tried the Dawnin bootloader with -x, -f and -legacy switches, but still get a message asking me to reboot.

I am using iATKOS v2.0 and I am trying to dual boot iATKOS and Windows Vista.
What can I do?
For this guide you'll need iATKOS v1.0i.
I googled v2.0, but all i could find were the words "trouble" or "start downloading v1.0"
Needless to say I was not able to continue the install successfully.
Thanks!
"Still waiting for Root Device" or something along the lines of that.
I'd be really grateful if you could help me.
Try all the fdisk and whatever i have read, not luck
use gparted to see my drive and behold I see the leopard partion as active and boot but my vista is now "unallocated"
any suggestions post a reply please
"Please Help! I am using iAtkos v1.0i R2 and i am not able to see the DARWIN BOOT option under UTILITIES.
Needless to say I was not able to continue the install successfully."
I have the same problem - Though i seem to be able to choose a partition from the UI and the install seems to work ok.
However, I'm not able to perform the step involving:
Execute the following commands :
fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
flag 1
quit
reboot
In the end my computer would not boot any operating systems (Bios claimed "Missing Operating System"
Maybe because I already had XP and Vista on dual boot..?
Any ideas/pointers would be greatly appreciated.
TRIPLE BOOT Vista, Ubuntu, and Mac
I see y'all have much problems installing Leopard on a PC. I've had problems myself, but i solved them all. In this post I will tell you how I solved them. I've worked a lot on this, so I hope this is usefull. Excuse me if my English is not that good, 'cause i'm a 16 years old boy from Belgium :P
If you still have problems after trying this, please leave a comment here and I'll try to help you out. I will need to write a tutorial as well for one of the "much-seen" problems, but I don't know where to post it yet. So be pacient 'till i found a place to post it.
I will read more of your posts to check if I can help you, but y'all have to know this takes time too.
If you want a tripple boot like me, just let me know and i'll write a tutorial for it (maybe there already is one out there)
PROBLEM 1 -- iATKOS v1.0ir2 --
Only one thing will help: start downloading iATKOS v1.0i
The r2 version does not have the darwin boot option in "Utilities" menu, so you can't do some of the steps in the guide.
PROBLEM 2 -- "Missing operating system" --
It is possible that you have vista, xp or another OS installed on your computer, (even with a dual boot) and you still see "missing operating system". This is becouse you don't have a working bootloader. You can solve this problem by installing Ubuntu (linux distro, only takes 2 partitions, one of 4 GB, and one of 1 GB). Ubuntu will use GRUB (bootloader). Then you'll have a dual boot configuration of ubuntu and vista (or xp)*
*If you had already a dual boot config, you will now have a tripple boot config
ADVISE 1 -- Other versions of iATKOS --
Please search for the right version. Don't download somthing else. If you want to use another version of iATKOS, go search the web for a guide regarding that version.
PROBLEM 3 -- Chain Booting Error --
In this guide, when you have to tell the darwin tool on witch HDD* you will install Leopard, and witch partition you will be using, you have to type 0 for your first HDD, 1 for your second, and so on. You have to do the same for the partition.
Instead of typing "0" for your first HDD, type "1".
If you use your second HDD, type "2", and so on.
Do NOT do this for the partition selection. Only if you still got the error, you have to do this for the partitions as well!
Go on with the installation and follow the steps in this guide. Once you get to the step where you have to boot into vista, get back here.
Ok, let's boot into vista and open the command prompt. Type the fllowing:
bcdedit /copy {current} /d "Mac OS X"
What you just did, is verry simple; you copied the windows boot profile (of the bootloader, the OS you're using right now, witch is your current), and you changed the name of that profile.. Now type this:
bcdedit /enum active
Now you will see all the active boot profiles you have. The first one will be the bootloader itself. The second will be windows (and the one we're using now, witch you can check by the identifier; sould say "current"). An finally we have the third. This one sould have "Mac OS X" as description.
If you check the third profile with your current profile, you should see everything is the same, exept the description. If that's true, restart your computer.
You sould get the bootloader already. Choose "Mac OS X". Windows should boot up.
Once logged in, go open the command promt again. Type this:
bcdedit /enum active
Again, you should see three profiles. Same as before, the first one is your bootloader, the second windows (but not your current) and finally, the third, Mac OS X. There you should see "Current" as identifier now. If that's true, type in this:
bcdedit /set {current} PATH \chain0
!!attention!! Make sure you type {current} instead of the alphanummeric GUID we used to type!!
Now reboot your computer and choose mac os x in your bootloader. Leopard should boot now.
* HDD = Hard Disk Drive
TROUBLE SHOOTING:
-- If the problem is NOT solved yet, please leave a comment, because there 's another way out!
-- if you still boot into vista, leave a comment or try the original way of the guide
So, I will take the time to make a tutorial for my other way to solve the 3th problem. I hope this post was helpfull.

can you explain it ??
or will there be any other links??
I'm trying to help you all, but it takes time, because I have to try to GET the error myself.
So, These are the problems I'm currently working on:
PROBLEM ONE -- Text stops scrolling with root device error --
It's very hard to solve a problem, that I don't have myself. So you have to help me by doing this:
--> boot into vista and log in (of course)
--> insert the iATKOS DVD and open it in Windows Explorer.
--> Write a comment and type the content of the DVD. (sould be a few files)
--> Wait for my reply to proceed :p
PROBLEM TWO -- Chain Booting Error --
First I need to knwo witch step is not working for you. Do you have problems with the command prompt in Windows?
--> Tip: Before I'm gonna help you individually, I want you to make a backup of your Boot configs. This can be done by typing the following command:
bcdedit /export "C:\bcdbackup"
This should have created a file on your C drive. We can use it later as backup.
PROBLEM THREE -- Network, Sound, Display, Etc. problems --
I have some of those problems myself. I believe it's all about mac drivers, but where can you find mac drivers for PC? I'll help you out. But first I want to try it myself before telling you, 'cause if somtn goes wrong... :)
So, that's my help post for today, and remember: I'll help y'all, but be pacient.
//Brecht
Try installing Ubuntu (Linux distribution) on a new partition.
You can make a new partitions in the ubuntu installer itself, so no need to download gparted (linux based too :P ).
You will need two partitions for installing ubuntu. Make a partition with a size of 4 GB, and Ext3 (just follow the instructions on the installer screen of ubuntu) as filesystem, and a little partition (about 1 GB) formatted as Swap.
Make sure you got those partitions and continue installing Ubuntu.
Just follow the steps on the screen. When that's finished, you can try to backup what's important from your harddrive. Normally you can access almost every type of partition formats (such as NTFS, FAT32, EXT3, and so on) on Ubuntu.
When you've got backups of everything that's important to you, reboot your computer, use Gparted or somtin' to erase evrything, and make new partitions. recommendet:
an NTFS partition for Vista
an NTFS partition for mac, but we cannot format this to the right format yet
Then install Vista. I think the Vista installer is clear enough, so i'm not gonna explain any of that.
After installing Vista, try again installing Leopard, and make sure you do it right. Also make sure you have the RIGHT version of iATKOS. See my hint above.
To be 100% safe, do NOT install any patches or drivers during installation.
Make sure you do EVERY step in this guide, and check my long post above too.
So, everything should go smoothly. If you still have trouble, drop a comment, and tell me exactly what happend. otherwise I can't help.
So! I think I sould get to type the black messages :P
//Brecht
I'm stuck on the dual boot setup part. I'm doing it exactly like it says in the guide, but when I try to boot the Mac OS X option it just boots into windows. Any pointers you guys can give me?
Thanks
Excelente trabajo "Karthik Kastury", muy bueno, te felicito!.
Hey I got it working, I used EasyBCD and they I wrote the Darwin boot loader to the partition that mac os was installed and that fixed it.
The only problem I have, is I have no ethernet or wireless
Ethernet is a Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet
the wireless us intel 3945 abg wireless.
I need to get the lan at least working so i can do the updates, unless someone has all the updates in a giant installer package.
I already wrote a post to solve this problem. If you have a problem, please read the big posts before asking questions. I'm sure in most of the cases, you'll find an answer. My first big post contains another way of setting up the bootloader. Try that. If that doesn't solve your problem, i'll try to help you out.
@ Ivan
I'll try your way to solve the problem out, and type it in the next troubleshooting post I write. That way, others can try it too.
@ Gabriel
Can't understand a word of what you're saying. please try to retype your problem in English, or find someone to do it for you :)

Thanks to those "DON'T PANIC" signs you put on the guide I was able to keep things going, lol.
Thank you so much!
I have completely installed everything and i can boot into Mac OS in safe mode but if i try to boot in normally it gets to the gray screen with the apple and then freezes. If anyone could let me know if they got a solution to this that would be great.
Thanks for helping us newbies out. You're doing a fantastic job!
I was able to get a copy of iATKOS v1.0i and got the following errors:
When I am in the Darwin Boot process, my keyboard stops working BUT I am able to continue by using COPY and PASTE the characters to answer the prompts. However, I still have a problem with the Chain Booting (Sorry, but your explanation on how to use the Darwin tool to select the partition was a little unclear.)
My notebook HDD has three partitions, the third one I created for OS X. When I use the Darwin tool to select the drive, I used the following settings:
HDD = 0 (for disk 1)
Partition = 3 (for disk partition 3)
Darwin says I will install OS X on "disk0s3". Is this correct? Because using this setting I received an error message in the Darwin terminal window that says unable to locate the partition.
However, I am still able to continue the installation and notice the OS X installation progress bar. Then I reboot with the DVD inside, press F8 and then -s. All I get is a page of scrolling text and then it stops. Thats as far as I got
When I reboot, I get a NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND message.
Can you help? Thanks again.
format the unnallocated partition as NTFS. The leopard installer should show this fileformat.
@ Gabriel
Boot into vista. insert the dvd and tell me witch files are on it. This can be done using Windows Explorer.
//Brecht
The only advise I can give you now is to reinstall Leopard. Maybe you better delete the new bootconfig of Mac OS X first. This can be done by following these steps:
--> Open Cammand Prompt in Vista
type the following commands:
bcdedit /enum active
this displays all the profiles in the store
bcdedit /delete {profile identifier} /cleanup
This command deletes the profile from the store. Type the alphanumeric identifier instead of "profile identifier". That value can be seen above, (that's why you typed "bcdedit /enum active") and should be the first value in row.
type again:
bcdedit /enum active
this is only to chack if the entry is gone.
@ Eric
Thanx for your compliment. I think I can help you out. Do the following:
--> The fact that your keyboard is not working is very strange. Il'l try to find out how to solve that one. If you have a keyboard with a PS/2 connector (not USB), I suggest you try a keyboard with a USB connector (try this first?). For now, continue pasting :P
--> once in the darwin utility, press "1" for your first HDD, instead of "0". this should solve the partition problem. Continue the installation.
--> If the keyboard problem is not solved when running Leopard, reainstall Leopard, but check (by clicking the checkbox :P ) the driver package using the "custom install" option in the Leopard installer.
!! ATTENTION !! You should do these steps ONLY if you have problems with your keyboard. Otherwise you can have an unsuccessfull installation! (had one myself)
And Eric, remember this: A few weeks ago, I was a newbe to this myself :P

When you get to:
# Once the Install is done, reboot with the DVD in the drive. Press F8 at Darwin Boot Loader and type -s and press enter.
# Execute the following commands :
fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
flag 1
quit
reboot
Do the Following instead:
# Once the Install is done, reboot with the DVD in the drive. Press F8 at Darwin Boot Loader and type -s and press enter.
# Execute the following commands :
fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0
flag 1
quit
cd /usr/standalone/i386/
startupfiletool /dev/rdiskXsx ./boot
dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsx bs=512 count=1
dd if=boot0 of=/dev/rdiskXsx bs=400 count=1
reboot
This solved my problem of chain loading :) Hope this helps someone else :D
PS: just as above guide says, replace X and x with appropriate locations of your hard drive and partition :)
If you don't have the darwin boot option in the utilities drop down menu, you have the wrong version of iATKOS. I bet you have version 1.0vir2.
Please READ the pig comments before asking!

Cool, this looks like a better way. I'll try this just for phun :p .
I thought of another way too:
Using GRUB instead of windows bootloader. working on it now. The more options to solve problems, the better :D

I think what that guy was trying to say was that nobody is listening to you when you say that iATKOS v1.0i is the proper one to use and NOT ANY OTHER VERSION.
You have a lot of people on this thread (including myself) that appreciate your support.
Keep up the good job!!!
Give me some more info about your system, and folow the tips for installer-boot problems.

Still checking for you. But I don't think the problem has to be found on your disk, 'cause I think you've got all the files you need on your disk.
@ whitefang888
This guide is for Intel computers only. Since Apple's computers are based on intel, I don't know there is somtin' like this for AMD. I saw a download of iATKOS of AMD too, but i'm not sure if it works. I don't have an AMD PC, so I can't help you on this.
//PSPro
I don't know what's wrong with this site, but some comments appear a day after a comment I wrote, before me.
Anyway, I had this once, but the problem was solved when I rebooted. I guess this doesn't help.
I'll need some more info about the following things:
- System specs? (CPU & mobo is enough)
- DVD content? (like above)
- witch speed did you use to burn your disk?
- How big is the iATKOS file?

I already posted 2 times, that only version 1.0i can be used. The file should have the size of 2.09 GB. Please read the big comments (starting Jun 20th) and you'll find many answers to problems you might have. For the unsolved problems, please be pacient, 'caus I'm working on it.

Please read those comments too. I've posted before that this only works on Intel machines. Anyway, I see you've got another problem too. Ill check that one out.

Where am I bad?
fortunately I manage to pass through the darwin boot in iatkos v2 installation, after I've gone through the disk utility and the darwin boot loader setup, the system then begin installing but It stop at the halfway (about 20%) of the installation saying something about the intel package couldn't be installed T_T, I tried again but its the same
any help or advice would be very helpful or should I go with the iatkos v1?
my hardware spec is Dell E1505 with core duo n X1400
ps: for those who don't know how to start the darwin boot utilities
in iatkos v2, you simply go to Utilities>>Terminal then type in "darwin boot" to start it
Please help!

Does anybody know how i can customize my AMIBIOS for kalyway?
it doesnt have any of the options i got from lifehacker, and i dont know
how to upgrade the bios. (its from 04)

I shrunk my Vista partition so there is now 30 GB unallocated... but when I boot to the DVD and go into the Disk Utility the buttons and format dropdown box are grayed out and disabled.
A few months ago, I had successfully installed leopard onto my system (with a few hardware issues, but tahts not important). However, my computer had to go in for repairs, and I have recently had it returned to me. My question is, seeing as I have ben out of the loop for quite some time now, is Kalyway 10.5.2 still teh best way to go, or has some new releases been created in the last, say, 3 and a half months or so, which are better?
thank you
Any help would be appreciated, I'm assuming it means my hard drive??
(This happens during the scrolling just after initalizing the Firewire)
Thanks in Advance
There are too many questions for one person to solve, so I can't follow. Please don't keep asking if your problem is solved, because there are a lot people who need help.
@ Jeff
Please read some big replies of me. If you've read them, you should know by now you need the iATKOS v1.0i (2.09 GB) file. Not version 2
@ Zeke
Same as above. Read. This doesn't work on AMD, and you need v1.0i. It is possible that v2.0 works, but there are many problems installing it, and I don't want to try it.
@ Lochlan
Your comment is completely useless to me. How can I solve a problem if I don't have information?
@ matthias
Unclear. what do you mean, give me info, etc...
@ artysx
Looks like a new error. Give me some more info. I'll check your bootconfig out.
@ El
Thanks for the tip about how to start darwin boot in v2.0. I didn't know that. Further, I recommend you download v1.0
@ Vishal
I don't need your system specs to solve this. Witch version of iATJOS did you use?
@ Tory
This guide is about iATKOS. Not about Kalyway. I'm not gonna test Kalyway, just to help you. I'm sorry. I suggest that you ask this question on macforums or somtin'
@ Brian
Thanks for solving this problem. I'll type it in my next big post, so people can find it.
@ Rafael
The one below.
@ A.J.
Doesn't matter. Just make sure you tell the installation program on witch hard drive you want to install Mac OS X.
@ Morgan bleck
Unknown issue. Please give me some information about your system, version of iATKOS, etc...
Please keep checking this site, 'cause I might need some additional information.
@ Aassem Askari
Again, this guide is about iATKOS. I recommed you use iATKOS v1.0i, but if you really want to use Kalyway, ask this question on insanelymac forum, or macforums.
@ antonio
No idea.I'll see what I can do.
@ Phillip
Read before you ask. Not even 10 comments ago this problem was solved.
People, I'm alone here to solve your problems. Y'all keep asking and asking. Please read and search before asking questions. Sometimes I'm just wasting my time reading about problems that already have been solved, and responding on them. This topic isn't the only thing in my life.

Its v1.0 but i've managed to get around that problem but i cant boot into leopard after the install. Its says something about a chain error or something like that.
I have 2 HDD installed in my desktop. I have followed your instructions step by step without any error.
I loaded Mac OS X on Disk1 as i had Vista loaded on Disk0.
After the entire install process I get to choose between Mac OS X and Vista. When I select Mac OS X It boots straight into Vista. I dont see the Darwin loaded at all.
What is that i have done wrong. What should I do to boot into Mac OS X.

You've reached my sense impolite. You leans on the back of someone else for your problems. You complain to the people who answer questions, while doing nothing yourself. then i get a grey screen and it tells me i must restart
do you know what needs to be done?

its just one option there, and that is to reset the computer to an other time. :/

The above steps were very helpfull while installing iATKOS. But after the installation the above steps are not compatible with Windows XP.
As bcedit is not compatible with Windows XP, I add following line to the boot.ini file:
C:\chain0="Mac OS X"
Now when I rebooted, I got two options at boot. One is Windows XP and other is Mac OS X.
Windows are working fine, but if I click to select Mac OS X at boot screen, it does not do any thing and takes me back to the same boot screen.
Does anyone from you have ever faced the same situation?
PLEASE help me on this..
I am desperate to see the Mac OS that I have installed successfully.
I followed the guide, but chose to install the patches as well - it worked fine.
Also I chose the bootloader x86 from the customizemenu.

In boot.ini I just added this in the bottom:
C:\chain0=”Mac OS X”

Regards,
I am presented with the option to boot into either Windows or Leopard when I boot my laptop up though. I can and am running Leopard fine. My only issue is I cannot go on the internet. Can anyone provide me assistance on how to get Leopard to recognize my ethernet card and wireless connection?
I have a Sony Vaio laptop, intel based running Vista. I followed guide EXACTLY and everything went smooth until...I got to the part where you are supposed to remove the dvd and then Vista boots fine. Of course, mine did not boot fine. I got the "winload.exe" error. Now I have no recovery discs to speak of just a partition on my HD to use if something happens. So I got a hold of a OEM copy of Vista from a friend. When I boot into the recovery console it asks me to load an operating system but the box is blank.
There are two buttons, "load drivers" or "next". I don't know what "load drivers" means so I click next which takes me to the basic screen with the options to system repair, windows hardware test, command prompt, etc. I choose system repair but it always says "system cannot be automatically repaired". So I tried a fixboot.exe /fixboot command from the command prompt. That didn't work either.
Funny thing, I CAN boot into and run Leopard but it gives me the error for "winload.exe" if I try to boot into Vista. Does anyone have any ideas that could help? I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions cause I think at this point I'm going to have to just reformat it all. Help?
And about Leopard, it runs fine except for no sounds at all and I cannot get internet working at all. Can anyone offer help or ideas for that too?
Thanks!
I have a HP laptop with AMD CPU, 2GB ram. I am trying to install the Leopard using your instruction, but it STOPS right after I push F8 and enter -v without any message. Would you please advise?
Thanks,
Al
Trying to do this, I only got as far as typing -v
The text came on the screen, but got stuck, giving me a "sam multimedia read or write fail"
Is there a fix?
"sam multimedia read or write error"
Since v4.0 is the latest.. are there users who succesfully installed OS X using v4.0? And could someone help the rest with a new tutorial..
:)
I don't know if you guys read the whole guide + comments, or just the guide. A while ago i've posted some solutions to solve some problems. But because everybody kept asking the same questions, without reading anything I stoped searching for solutions. I've been through 70% of your problems and solved most of them. It took a lot of time. So, my advise is: start reading all these comments, especially the big ones.
I'm negating those who ask things about other versions of iATKOS or Kalyway. This is about iATKOS 1.0i.
I have to study for the next few weeks. I'm about to get my diploma. After that I'll try to solve the whole driver thing (get sound, network, etc working)
The option for Darwin Boot wasn't in the utilities drop down. I'm using iATKOS v4i
Could you please help as i would love to give this a try.
After the F8 -v part i get the said scroll but it hangs after :-
Mac OS version:
9A581
Kernal Version:
Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0:
My system specs are as follows:-
Intel core 2 duo 2.6 cpu
BFG nvidia 680i mobo
BFG nvidia 8800 gtx 768mb video
C-Media 8738 sound
4 gig ram
2x SATA hdd
1x IDE hdd
So do I just patch the iATKOS v1.0 image with the AMD patch and follow the instructions here or do I follow the complete instructions over there?
i've downloaded the Iatkos iso file and burned it on the dvd.
When i try to boot it by pressing F8 and -V it gets stuck at "IAOPIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 64:87"
Can anyone help? i wan't to try it, but i'm not an expert. I have nog idea what things like "-v, vanilla, -s, kernel, ...." stand for.
I have an Acer Aspire 5670.

Mac OS is really so cool and user friendly.. I love it!!
Try to use -v at boot loader screen (press F8), then let us know where your screen hangs (the last command line)
When I'm in command prompt nad type in: bcdedit /copy {current} /d “Mac OS X”, it says "A description for the new entry must be specified" I thought that this could be normal so continiued, but I can't find the GUID for mac os x, when I type in the second command, it comes up with Windows Boot Manager and some details and then Widnows Boot Loader and details "Windows Vista Home Premium "
Any tips?
Thanks in advance

I've installed it with no problems, except everytime I boot into it, it says I have to restart my computer. When I try to boot with -v, it stops at loading the NTFS driver.

You all need a boot loader to dual boot without probs.
it might work for a bit but it will go funny without 1.
There are many out there have a look, i used
disk dir 10.5
Start with a fresh install on both.......vista and mac
follow the instructions on the site that made your .iso
i used leo4all v2.... v3 did't work for me but might for you.
It all depends on your pc's setup. It will work for you it's just hard work and keep at it, I will try to help were i can.

so my xp is on the main HD or C: drive, and then Leopard would be on D: on a partition.
When i put the dvd in and boot to it. i go through all the steps and then in the utilities menu i don't have the darwin bootloader. so i can't follow the steps above.
i was just wondering if someone could point me in the right way.
I am on a Dell E520.
any other info you need, just ask :D.
thanks
i would be happy to give it to you with a leopard install

My current Hard drive is configured with RAID 0 (Striping) and was wondering if this will still work?
Does this work with Quad core intell processors?
have an HP pavilion elite,
3gb ram
Intel q6600 Quad core processor
320gb x2 Harddrives, cureently in RAID 0
http://osx86leo4all.wikidot.com/
try these site 1st
iaktos v1 will not work use v2
I used leo4all but v2 this worked for me without problems on my satellite pro, but you will need a bootloader
I used disk dir v10 find this on mant torrent sites
my advise to you is when you get to the point were it ask you which drivers to use if yours are not there ! or if there is only 1 or 2 things that your system has, there is a good chance its not going to work,
I would check 1st and if your on a desktop think about an upgrade that will give you what the Mac OS is looking for.
i.e. wifi cards, ati, radeon cards that sort of thing coz if there not going to work there is no point trying to do this
thanks to all that have tried and the 1s still going

I have Dual-Boot on my Machine, with MediaDirect (Dell's Media Software). I have a 48GB Partition s unallocated - initally it was under an extended partition. I then changed/moved my partition that the 48GB is a partition in itself that is unallocated.
Problem: Mac OS X Disk Utilities can not see the 48.5GB unallocated. It can see 4 partitions, 47MB (assume something with MediaDirect), 200GB (NTFS-XP HOME), 50GB (NTFS-VISTA), 2GB (MediaDirect). Hard drive reads as 298 (320GB Drive) on the Disk Utilities Page, but I don't see an unallocated space which I have left for Mac OS X.

This error comes for atleast iATKOS v1.0 r3 and i think r2 too.
The actual error is that the boot file for mac is not there on hard disk. That's because Darwin bootloader has not been installed.
To install it you need to choose customize option in the window having Install button.
Now choose that darwin bootloader from the options. There are actually 2 bootloaders I choosed the second one ECI(not sure about the exact name) and installed it. And from the next time your system will start booting from harddisk no more DVD required.

The site for the iso author and two PPF files you need to download to patch the iso before you burn it can be found here: http://pcwizcomputer.com/ipcosx86/?page_id=105
Just read his instructions, write down all of your specs and select whatever drivers, kernels, apps you want and install. Worked first time for me on my Dell laptop which has been impossible for me to get working with conventional methods.
Good Luck.
Please help
Daniel Hopkins
Does anyone know why this might be?
Would really appreciate it if someone could help.
Thanks!
First, you have to allocate the Unallocated space to something, otherwise you won't be able to format. So free space shouldn't really be free space.
Second, Better to remove the partition that has EISA configuration and the Recovery partition and merge them into one single partition. I used Linux for that. VISTA seemed unable to remove the EISA partition
Third, when in Darwin during the installation if Info says disk 0 partition 2 then in Darwin utility use disk as 1. The tutorial is wrong (unless it's different for different hardware), otherwise you'll get something like "hdiutil: unmount: “s2″ failed to unmount due to error 2" and usually along with that, your partition table is irrecoverably messed up. I had to restore using clonezilla
Fourth, the tutorial says in Darwin (after installation is done), use "flag 1" make sure you change that depending on where your windows installation resides. On my computer after removing recovery and EISA partitions, the Leopard was installed on partition 1 while Vista on partition 3 so I typed "flag 3"
Make sure you clone your hard drive since errors will mess up your partitions and it was unrecoverable for me using the Windows CD. I used clonezilla to duplicate my hard drive before messing with it.
Problems:
It can take a number of boots before it successfully boots. I am not sure what is causing it to do that. With the -v I see there's SIGFPE. It will boot fine once every couple times, but once in I don't see problems.
Never use Sleep or shutdown. Only restart works for me. Sleep made my system unbootable, I had to disconnect the battery.
Wireless drops quite frequently.
Karthik, please update your tutorial!!! but definitely thanks for the other correct instructions
Enjoy!!!
First of all thanks for a great tutorial, and i thought that it came all the way through for me but alas i havent been able to boot OS X yet. The problem is when i reboot computer even though it shows OS X as a boot option it does not boot it but vista instead, do you know what might be the problem? Is there any chance i might have messed up something somewhere? maybe the GUID thing? if so i'm not sure how to do it exactly, can someone elaborate please?
Regards

1. Do you need a copy od Mac OS X to do this?
And
2. Could I Tri-Boot Using X, Vista and Windows 7
"about these commands…
bcdedit /copy {current} /d “Mac OS X”
bcdedit /enum active
bcdedit /set {GUID} PATH \chain0
I’m not sure which one is the GUID. there are two sets of numbers, one on the top of the Mac OS X section, and one at the bottom of it."
please sent me the answer [a]
thank you sooo much :D
You probably just need to buy bigger disks. For example I have a bunch of 4.7GB disks that will fit it easily, since its usually only about 2.2 gigs.
Even i had same problem, i made the partion primary by booting through Vista DVD and then selecting inatall operating system , then quit Vista install. now i have come back to OSX install and it did recognize....
Enjoy..
System config file ‘/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist’ not found
Also the .ISO file size reads 2GB but when the files are extracted and you add all the file sizes up it's way less than 2GB.
Any help?
When i boot into the program. I pressed F8 and then typed -v
it goes for like five seconds, stops at
Loading HFS+ file: [mach_kernel] from 4230450
Then it takes me back to where i have to push F8
How do i fix that?
I've tried -v but the screen hangs after the Firewire cannot find secure.... yadda yadda and then it says "still waiting for root"
I then re-installed Vista. It shows me only one partition :C, the partition for MAC being invisible. I can see it though if I use Disk management.
If I start from the MAC DVD, I can also see the 2 partitions, one is :C and the other I called MAC.
I redid the bcdedit commands which gave me the dual option at start-up. When I choose Vista, I boot with no problems. When I choose Mac OS X, the dual screen comes back again. I pressed the F8 key, selected the partition for Mac and pressed Enter as indicated in the guide, but I still can't boot in Mac.
What should I do?
I’ve tried -v but the screen hangs after the Firewire cannot find secure…. yadda yadda and then it says “still waiting for root”

i am having the same problem, PLEASE HELP

When I boot, I get error

What does this software do?
Another, I have Windows Vista Basic running in Acer Aspire X3200 and I don't have the Windows Vista Boot DVD. Where do I get this?
And I have the Mac Box Set, which means I have the original CD of Mac OS X (and haven't installed it yet on my Acer Aspire X3200).
Please Answer. =)
but when I reboot after setting dual and select MAC OS X from the menu it goes to apple screen which continues loading until i see an error icon on Apple Mac Main icon.
Can anybody help.
i tried to do this and everything went great until i choose mac osx to boot... then the "chain choosing error" came up.
i did everything exactly how it's described in the guide, except from the partition. i had to make the volume, that i've done for the mac osx, located. so, i called it "Macintosh HD". but the reason i had to do this was, because the first time i tried to install iatkos on the unallocated partition, but the partition wasnt there, so there was no way to choose this unallocated partition in the iatkos installer. the second time i named it and installed it on this partition. worked pretty well. until now... in the boot-screen i can choose between vista and mac osx, but everytime i want to boot mac the "chain booting error" comes up... do you have an idea?
and thanks a lot for this guide!!
greets Joey
can GRUB stay?
Thanks a lot for a lovely post.
thanks
when i press F8 at the time of countdown, when i boot into DVD, my pc restarts. even when i press any other key, my pc restarts.
can any one help me out here?
The last line before it restarts is it flashed Starting OS_X89 or something it only flashes that for like half i second
the line before that is
Loading HFS+ file [/system/library/extensionmkext/] from 4230450
I've tried the above method to install OS X on my dell pc twice, once with the iATKOS v1.0 and once with iATKOS 5i. Both times, after I enter -v at the prompt, a few lines of text scroll and my pc reboots. No matter what I do, I just cant get past this.
I'm running Vista Home Premium x64 on an Intel Core i7 920 Proc @2.67 GHz. Could this be the problem? Does Core i7 support OS X?
Thanks in advance
Still waiting for root device, over and over again, I never get to the leopard installer.
Please help.
use only one style."
Also, the disk is only 542 KB. Is that supposed to happen?
I've downloaded the iATKOS v1.0 as a .zip file that has 2.09 GB, and after extracting, the .iso file had 2.44 GB. Is that the right iso?
I'm asking because I have the following problem:

using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers
Extension “com.apple.driver.ACPI_SMC_PlatfotmPlugin” has immediate depencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style
Can anyone help me PLEASE?
anyways, to all you who were able to make this into a triple boot, would it be possible to do this into a quad-boot?
i am already running ubuntu, vista and win7 [β], so would it be possible to add osX to these?
i've installed everything and the first time i booted leopard everything seemed to be fine and it worked, and i was setting up everything. but the second time i wanted to boot it, the darwin boot came up, and then i pressed F8 and chose the "mac OS X" and after a few seconds it reboots and i'm back on the boot screen(Vista, Mac).
any ideas?
Joey
I've got the following notebook, I just want to know if this notebook is able to run Leopard 10.5.5 on by using the iAtkos v5.0i. Or do I have to use another version?
Medion MD96290 (WIM 2160). Intel Core Duo Processor (T2310 Model). Processorspeed 1,86 GHz. 2GB DDR2-667 Internal memory; Intel 945GM chipset. Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. Graphics Memory 256 MB; 160GB Harddisk SATA; Realtek wireless Adaptor.
I ask this, because I couldn't find an answer anywhere. I think nobody is familiair with the Medion notebook.
I've got a little problem with installing Leopard on my pc. I downloaded iAktos 4 and then I followed every step that I needed according to this site. Leopard had been installed right, but when I reboot after installation, you have to type S in prompt, but when I do that, installation starts over again? I think something has gone wrong with the installation on the wrong partition or something.
When I was installing you had to select the partition number with utilities->Darwin boot but that wasn't there!. Maybe that's the problem? I really don't know..
Thanks!
(ps: sorry for my English)
But I seem to be having problems, I get to the stage after I finish typing in the commands after "-s". I go to reboot but straight after the BIOS screen it just sits there on a black screen with an underscore in the upper right corner flashing.
Please help because I'm not entirely sure what to do now. Doesn't seem like anything wants to boot.
Thanks.
Does anyone know why this might be?
Would really appreciate it if someone could help.

Adding a partition under OS X Disk Utilitysounds like agreat idea but there is no option to add one. The +, - and Options boxes are grayed out and disabled. The Disk Utility Help also does not work.
Any help will be appreciated.
First off, thanks for sharing this information!!! Much appreciated!
I too got as far as here
"Press F8 as the countdown begins and type -v at the prompt and hit enter.
You should see scrolling text on the screen now. If it stops anywhere then drop a comment and I’ll try to help you out."
It stopped...I have to force a restart....what should I do next?

Somehow i'm only allowed to compress 13 mb on my labtop. Would it be possible to compress an external hard drive? I guess the question really is if it's possible to install leopard on an external drive?
As I presume it isn't, how do I compress more? Deleting stuff from the hard drive certainly didn't seem to help as I deleted 12 gb, without any effect.

2) Will this affect any of my windows drivers? Will i be able to listen to all my music and use all my windows programs as usual?
3) Does this allow you to recieve updates from Apple?
Thank you for all the help,

So I have one 500GB HD. The partitions are:
[?????] 47mb <-- Some partition that Vista created
[C:] 75GB - Vista <-- Vista OS
[D:] 24GB - Spare <-- where OSX is planned on being installed
[E:] 375GB - Data <-- All my important data
I booted the DVD and erased the 24GB partitoined and formatted it to OSX Journaled Ext.
I then did INFO on that partition and you can see in osx1.jpg it shows as DISK 0, PARTITION NUMBER 5
http://www.gonrad.com/200903/osx1.jpg
I then went into Terminal and did DISKUTIL LIST and I see my OSX partition listed as DISK 0 PARTITION #4. You can see it in osx2.jpg below
http://www.gonrad.com/200903/osx2.jpg
So, what do I pick? 4 or 5?

Does this work with AMD?
Thank you.
Booted up with that disc got to the F8 prompt and then -v;

And then nothing, it hangs. No reboot, nothing except power button. I have noticed this has been asked on a few other pages but with no obvious response.
Any help guys?
I have a Samsung R700 laptop with Vista home premium and Intel Centrino

I have an empty 500 gig hard drive for OSX right now.
8 gigs of OCZ ram at 800 MHz.
You have to create a simple volume on the unallocated partition in Vista so that it can be seen from OSX's disk utility.
Then erase that volume using the disk utility and remember to select the disk format as 'MAC OS (Journaled)'
1. if i just let it run through without hitting any buttons, then it goes to the apple startup screen (the white one with the apple sign and the turning circle). It just stays there and does nothing....
2. if i hit F8 then -v, then it starts scrolling text then stops... the last thing it says is "Extension "com.apple.driver.ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin" has immediate dependencies on bot com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style."
Any Suggestions?

Any advice on what to do or if it's a bad iso? Thanks.
I had an old gateway kicking around that windows was corrupted on it's running a celeron processor (intel arcetecture should be fairly similar, but I'll try it on one of my other machines that has a core duo after I finish this post)
-> I got my partitions all lined up and ready to install leopard
-> put in dvd and booted using F8 and -v for verbose
---> sucessfully loaded the Mac framework
---> after saying "Got boot device (long list of apple thingys)" it hangs on "BSD root disk1s3, major 14, minor 9"
I'm trying to install it onto a 40 gb maxtor diamond max plus 8 drive formatted to a 9 gig partition for xp (I have vista somewhere as well I could throw on there or one of my windows 7 betas) and a 30 gig unallocated space. I've also tried it on a Quantum fireball 30 gig mac specific (and branded) hard disk (all unallocated space) and gotten a similar message (both are ide drives I don't have an external one to try with) I've tried various combo's of how the drives are attached on the same cable with the dvd drive on the other bus no difference... same hangs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to learn to do this.
I got through everything fine, until the part where I had to select Mac OS X in the Vista bootloader. When I select Mac OS X, it just loads Vista. Is there anything I can do to solve this?
I've made it through all of the installation process. I get the dual boot screen. Windows works fine.
When I choose "Mac OS X" at the Darwin Boot, it asks me which drive it's on. After that, Leopard starts loading with the grey screen and the Apple logo. Looks good for a minute, then I get the no-smoking sign (just like some other people; I have not found a posted solution for this yet).

A great writeup indeed. My Sony Viao has two internal HDDs. The first one has Vista. The second is blank. Should i try to install Panther on the second one? whenever i type in the command "-v" i get a scrolling text for like 2 seconds, than my PC just reboots. I tried it a few times, doesnt work.
My Hardware contains:
Intel Quadcore Q9450, 2.67 GHz, 6 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 260, Mainboard: Asus P5QL PRO (socket 775).
If you have a clue what is going on or simply an idea that could help, I'd me more than happy to be informed by you.
Kindly,

I have a RAID 0 setup on my Intel Core 2 E8200 2.66Ghz Dell Optiplex 755.
I have my Vista partition (C), my recovery partition (D), and I made a new one (E) to install OS X. When I got into Leopard's install, it did not recognize my RAID 0 as one drive. It saw each drive with two partitions each (C and D but not E). Furthermore, I could not install OS X on any of the four partitions it saw (2 on each drive) because they were grayed out. Obviously I didn't want to install on the drive itself and erase the paritions, so I couldn't get anywhere. What I really don't get is why it saw my C and D even if it didn't recognize the RAID, while not seeing the newly created E partition. I tried two ways, once with the space unallocated and once with the space formatted and labeled.
Is there a way to get Leopard on my RAID 0 ??
Thanks!

if the programm want to erase there come a error:

1. Couldn't you just install Leopard using your 1 Step process (http://dailyapps.net/2007/12/hack-attack-instal...) and then use Boot Camp to install Windows?
2. And for either method (the one I just suggested or the one you have written about above) could you use your Windows Restore Disc to install Windows or would I have to buy another Install Disc?
Thanks

Im not hugely knowledgable with computers but know my way around them. For this reason I was wondering If I were to install the mac os on a laptop, would it be easier/better to install it using the "install Leopard in one easy step" guide and then just use windows through the mac os with something like bootcamp like one would on an actual mac? Or not?
Thanks.
This would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.

I'm wanting to dual boo those 2 specifically....
Also what is the access they each have to the others drive? just read or can't even see it at all(assuming you install it on 2 separate drives like i want to)?
Wouldn't it be easier to install OSX then install windows via boot camp (but with your own selection of drivers)?
please help
1. If I purchase a retail copy of snow leopard, will that work as my install DVD?
2. Is the following AMD system going to work?

I am trying to install dual boot Vista Extreme Edition (Ultimate hacked by Amit ) and MAC OS X on a oldish IBM T43 I have. I installed Vista pretty smooth. It works fine. I am following these steps to install MAC OS X. I downloaded the iAtkos v1.0i, wrote to a DVD at minimum possible speed (DVD + R) and now booting on it. It boots and gives the F8 option and when I press -v it does a series of steps but halts at a point and then just reboots. The last message I can see is this..

Am I missing something? Is IBM T43 good enough for OSX?

Do the Following instead:
# Once the Install is done, reboot with the DVD in the drive. Press F8 at Darwin Boot Loader and type -s and press enter.
# Execute the following commands :
fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0

quit
cd /usr/standalone/i386/

dd if=boot1h of=/dev/rdiskXsx bs=512 count=1
dd if=boot0 of=/dev/rdiskXsx bs=400 count=1

This solved my problem of chain loading :) Hope this helps someone else :D
PS: just as above guide says, replace X and x with appropriate locations of your hard drive and partition :)

Suggestions????
I downloaded a dmg file of osx 10.6 snow leopard, thought id be able to manage installing it somehow, but havent progressed so far.
I am running Vista, and already bought another secondary hard drive to install the osx into it.
Please please tell me what shall I do now, give any hint to proceed..
I see "Booting kernel" messages, then it says "EBIOS Read error".
Usually, I can fix these things by myself, but not now. Could you try to help me?
I am using dell dimesnion 3000.
Any help highly appreciated.
Two mistakes in this article:
1- The unallocated space thing is not true, Installation process doesn't even see the unallocated space! but instead I had to format it with NTFS to be seen to the MAC installation and then through Utilities->Disk Manager I could just erase the disc with the Mac file system.
2- I didn't see any [Utilities -> Darwin Boot] ! so I looked and found instead [Utilities->startup disk] and the only option I saw was "network"!!
I am using x64 bit Windows 7 (very similar to Vista)
But this guide sounded to me like talking about expired information. Or there is something WRONG.
But of course, looks like it worked for some, and you did your best so thank you for the try to help every one.

Actually, the F8 key does nothing for me when I tried. My laptop simply boots using the DVD: when I press F8 many times to get the bootloader give me a chance to type something, the bootload does not respond to my pressing F8 and it immediately displays a white screen with Apple Logo in the middle and after a minute, it displays Leopard dekstop on the screen (already logged in as a user, the deck showing in the bottom, etc...). I then launched Terminal so that I execute the commands mentioned, but the terminal says that "access denied". I woud need root privileges to enter the commands in the Terminal. But then, I don't know what is the password for the System Admin (root). If I reboot from my hard disk, I just get "Missing operating system..." message (I cannot boot to Windows 7, and I cannot boot to Leopard either). I need to put Leopard DVD in the laptop and tell my bios to boot from the DVD, only then I get to Leopard desktop.
Please tell me what to do (hamidbm@ymail.com). I have a Fujitsu T4215 Notebook (tabletPC). Windows7 installed on C:\ drive while Leopard installed on a separate partition that I formatted as MaxOX Extended Journaled during the installation.
Thanks.
After we do the installation we need to boot to MAC but it doesn't!

Where do I get alphanumerical GUID now and where to put it in boot.ini?
Thank you in advance!
I think I installed Leopard succesfully. I had some problems with command prompt afterwards but now I managed so everything is installed.
But now I have some new problem; when I want to boot Mac OS X, the computer ask if I want to restore Windows. And I don't have 2 options, but 5!. 1 time Windows Vista (restored) and 4 times Mac OS X. I tried the 4, but everytime the computer asks if I want to restore Windows Vista.
Could you help?
Thanks in advance!

Possibly with Windows 7, instead of Vista. But that would be an extra :)
# At the prompt when it asks for the Disk Number enter 0. For the Partition Number if your Leopard Partition is 2nd on the disk, then enter 2 and so on.
# Accept the following prompts and you should see a success prompt saying that so many block of data were written successfully.

help please
Let's say that I've followed all your instructions to the letter. Well, I have a slight problem where at the very end--when the Darwin Boot Loading screen comes up with the timer--my computer reboots after the MAC OS X is selected and the counter reaches 0. Then it takes me back to the same screen.
If I press F8, it takes me through the same steps again, except I can select the partition with the MAC OS X on it, but after I do that, it reboots again.
Once again, all of this is "hypothetical", and no legal action can be taken against me.
I would LOVE to get some help on this matter if you would be so kind. :D You can contact me (if you would like) through the following.

If you do decide to help, I thank you VERY much in advance. :D

i started my pc with bartpe(a bootable cd copy of xp) and i can see my old drives, old datas, but i can't set my old c:\ drive as boot disk. what can i do? can any1 help me? please.
I booted to iAtkos v7 and when i type -v all it does is reboot the pc after a little bit of scrolling text. Is this because I have a 64-bit processor?
What should I do?
I´ve always searched for such a Guide (thats not a Vid xD)
but... YOUR AWESOME!!!
PS: I´m German, so ignore my bad english ^^
i had this problem too, you only have to run cmd in a administrator mode (right clik on it and you'll have this option)
I read somewhere that preferably one should install Mac OS X on a separate hard disk rather than a partition of the one having Vista on it. Does your method work with that as well or does one need to alter certain steps or commands?
I'm stuck on a couple things ...
1) I successfully installed Leopard, but I get the error you mentioned about winload.exe being corrupted. I am unable to get my repair disk to automatically repair the startup error. It just freezes up forever. Is there another way to do this using command prompt?
2) When I try to boot up Mac Os, it won't move past the screen that says I need a keyboard plugged in. I am on a new (this year) ACER laptop, and I'm guessing that I just need to plug in a USB keyboard, as the USB mouse works and the touchpad doesn't at this point. Any way around this problem, as I don't have a USB keyboard?
Also, I'm a bit confused about the chain0 portion once I get vista up and running again ...
Thanks for the guide so far, just getting stuck on a few things. Would appreciate any help you could send.
Thanx for ur guide!

i've done it and it doesn't works well... I explain :
I did all steps and Mac Os X is installed but... dosn't works : actually i don't really know
i can't boot on it. I've the original seven installation works well and if i choose the mac OS X at the prompt boot, it begins on... seven too : why ?
If i do "bcdedit" on a cmd, i have both start options like you had written
"Type the following into the prompt
bcdedit /copy {current} /d “Mac OS X”
bcdedit /enum active
bcdedit /set {GUID} PATH \chain0
In the first command type {current} as it is, literally..nothing else..just {current} with the brackets. In the 3rd command however, replace the {GUID} with the alphanumeric GUID you see in the enumerated list under MAC OS X. You can see this list on your terminal as soon as you type the 2nd command above."
but it doesn't work !
Helps me please
